I started seriously using a planner when I entered my first year of college. I knew that college would mean a busier schedule, full of deadlines, meetings and other extracurricular activities. Therefore, I knew that in order to stay on top of my responsibilities, I have to keep track of everything I was doing.
Finding the perfect planner is not an easy feat. I've probably gone through more than five planners in my first two years of college. I'm still trying to find the perfect planner. But throughout all this, I realized that that's exactly what I am-- a planner addict.
If you're a planner addict too, I'm sure you'll understand these 14 experiences.
1. Watching planner reviews on YouTube
If you're a true planner addict, you don't just go to the store and pick up any old daily planner you see. You have to do your research. And what's the best way to find out which planner you should buy? Watching planner reviews on YouTube. There are so many channels dedicated to planners and agenda books. They go over everything - from the design of the planner, to the monthly and weekly layouts, to the binding of the book.
2. Reading blogs about planners
Just like YouTube videos, there are a number of blogs that cover planners and organization tips of all sorts! These blogger recommend their favorite planners and planner supplies and sometimes do comparison posts. Sometimes, I get too impatient watching long planner review videos. My solution: going on Pinterest, finding planner blogs and just browsing through them quickly.
3. Getting motivated by "studyblrs"
If you don't know what a "studyblr" is, it's pretty much a study blog on Tumblr (study + Tumblr = studyblr). I can spend hours on Tumblr just looking through the weekly spreads on these studyblrs. It's true that my planner will probably never look like the ones stillstudies has on her Tumblr page, but it's nice to get a little inspiration now and then.
4. The first time you open your planner

I don't know why, but there's something so satisfying in flipping through the blank pages of a planner. It's kind of nerve-wracking to even write your name on the first page (I have to tell myself not to mess this up).
5. Decorating your planner
There are a lot of planner addicts out there who want to make their planners the most filled up, beautiful and organized thing in their life. If that's you, then you do you! I applaud you for having picture-worthy spreads. I used to be like this too; I still wish that I was, but I just don't have the time to do it anymore. I'm trying to have a more minimalistic design when it comes to my planner decorations. But that doesn't mean that I don't get bothered by scribbling out mistakes or not using the same pen every time I write in it.
6. Using washi tape
You can't consider yourself a true planner addict if you don't know what washi tape is. I am seriously thankful to whoever made washi tape because it can transform a boring old planner into a piece of artwork. If you're on the hunt for some cheap washi tape, stop by Walmart or your local craft store. I also suggest going on Etsy because they often have more unique designs.
7. Buying new stickers
Just like washi tape, stickers can really help transform your planner. There are so many useful stickers out there such as "to-do" stickers, "gym" stickers and specific event stickers. Sometimes, you feel guilty using a sticker because you don't want to use them all up. So if you're a true planner addict, I'm sure you have a huge sticker stash in your desk.
8. Feeling as if you're the most organized person you know
And probably the most organized person everyone else knows. Your friends probably rely on you to organize plans after seeing your planner. You always feel as if you have your whole life together whenever you browse through your planner.
9. Making a mistake when writing on your planner
See where I made a mistake and had to scribble out those numbers? Those scribbles bother me so much. Many planner addicts get annoyed when their planners aren't perfect or when their writing isn't even. Sometimes, you just have to tell yourself to get over it.
11. Crossing out a task from your to-do list
Nothing feels as good as finishing a task and crossing it off your list. Being productive makes you happy and feel like you are ready to accomplish any goal.
12. Shopping at your local Target
Everyone loves Target - especially planner addicts. The dollar bin area is full of stationery and planner accessories that are extremely affordable and cute. Need sticky notes? New pens? Pretty stickers and washi tape? Stop by Target!
13. Choosing your writing utensil
If you're a planner addict, you really can't decide what kind of pen, pencil or marker you should use. You have a pencil case filled with all kinds of writing utensils. My go-to pen is Muji's Polycarbonate pen in black. I use Staedler fineliner pens and Kuretake brush pens for colored writing and design.
14. Finding the perfect planner
Like I mentioned earlier, I am still on the search for a perfect planner. There are so many options out there including Erin Condren, Lilly Pulitzer, Sugar Paper, Ban.do, Passion Planner, Bullet Journaling, etc. It can get overwhelming at times, but you have to find what works best for you!
So there you have it-- 14 incidents you've probably encountered as a planner addict. You love your planner and you're not afraid to admit it!
