If you're anything like me, you spent your teen years obsessed with one show: "Gilmore Girls!" You've quoted it around the house, couldn't help saying "copper boom" when you moved into college, and spent many nights distraught over Luke and Lorelai's relationship and who Rory should have ended up with. Well, if any of this is true for you, then you probably know that our favorite girls are returning to Stars Hollow. A revival of the show through Netflix has been confirmed, and I don't know about you, but I have cried so many happy tears over this. "Gilmore Girls" can, hopefully, get the ending it deserved. So, if you're curious about what this revival will entail, I've got you covered. Here are 12 things we know about the upcoming revival.
1. It's not just going to be a typical season.
The revival will not be in done in a typical "season" fashion. "Gilmore Girls" will return to Netflix with four 90-minute episodes with each episode representing one of the seasons: winter, spring, summer and fall. It will take place in present day, or eight years after the original series finale aired (in 2007). The revival will be written by the series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and directed by her husband Daniel Palladino.
2. The original cast is back!
Almost all of the original stars have been confirmed as returning, including Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore), Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore), Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore), Scott Patterson (Luke Danes), Keiko Agena (Lane Kim), Liza Weil (Paris Geller), Yanic Truesdale (Michel Gerard) and Sean Gunn (Kirk Gleason).
3. Edward Herrmann's passing will impact the show.
As many "Gilmore Girls" fans know, Edward Hermann (Richard Gilmore), passed away at the end of 2014 from brain cancer. This, obviously, leaves a very big hole in the Gilmore family. Without the patriarch's presence, it will definitely be a hard time for the Gilmores, but it will be interesting to see how the loss affects each of the characters, especially the newly widowed Emily.
4. All of the scripts have been written.
Straight from Milo Ventimiglia's Twitter, we know that all four scripts have been written. Kelly Bishop also commented that she had already read three out of four of them. This is definitely moving fast, and you know what that means! Soon we'll all be able to return to Stars Hollow!
5. Netflix announces 2016 release date.
In Netflix's official confirmation on the revival, they tweeted the above picture with the caption "From Stars Hollow to Hartford to New Haven to Netflix. Welcome back, girls. An all new season of 'Gilmore Girls' coming to Netflix in 2016." They said it, so to me, that means that we have to wait less than a year for this to be released. If they want to release it right now, that would be fine with me too.
6. Sookie fans will be disappointed.
Definitely crying. Melissa McCarthy (Sookie St. James) has arguably become the biggest star to come out of the show since its conclusion. While I am so happy for Melissa and all of her success, part of me is a little sad. Her crazy schedule has gotten in the way of her participating in the show. Amy Sherman-Palladino released a statement saying "But the thing I have said [to her team] is, ‘Look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, I’ll write her a scene. Melissa was one of us." Not too long after this, however, Melissa tweeted a fan "Thanks for the invite, but sadly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow. Wish them all the best!!" So, it looks like Melissa might not be making that cameo, but I'm going to keep holding out hope because a Sookie appearance would be just about the only thing missing from Stars Hollow.
7. The boys are back!
Let the ship wars begin! Jared Padalecki (Dean Forester), Milo Ventimiglia (Jess Mariano), and Matt Czuchry (Logan Huntzberger) will all be returning...to fight over Rory perhaps? I am so excited that all of these guys have signed on to return because it has plagued me for eight long years who Rory would choose between the three of them. Will it be Jess, Logan, none of the above? Will it be Dean? (It probably won't be Dean.) Amy Sherman-Palladino has herself admitted that she has a soft spot for Jess, so I guess we'll see what happens there. (#TeamJessandifnotJessthenLogan)
8. Other fan favorites will be returning...
9. And some not-so-fan-favorites.
That's right friends. You win some, you lose some. Vanessa Marano will be reprising her role as April Nardini in the Netflix revival. Most fans of the show have groaned at the return of this particular character. Vanessa Marano is great, but April is often accredited with breaking up Luke and Lorelai, so she isn't very popular. Though, it does make sense for her to be coming back. Like it or not, she is Luke's daughter, and it just wouldn't be right if Luke didn't see her. It looks like we'll just have to just suck it up. Besides, I don't think even April could ruin this revival!
10. Paul Anka is back!
The star of the show is making a return! What do you mean Paul Anka wasn't the star? He was in my mind. The dog that was afraid of the front porch steps will be among those returning, and I'm excited to see what weird thing will be frightening this dog eight years later. According to TVLine's calculations, Paul Anka should be around 120-years-old in dog years. He may not be a spring chicken anymore, but we love him just the same.
11. "Bunheads" meets "Gilmore Girls"
Fans of ABC Family's "Bunheads" (created by Amy Sherman-Palladino) will recognize this star. Sutton Foster has been confirmed to be making the trip over to Stars Hollow for the revival. Her character has not yet been announced, but I doubt she will be playing the same character as she did in "Bunheads," considering Kelly Bishop starred in both shows in different roles. That might get a little confusing when Fanny Flowers is suddenly Emily Gilmore.
12. We will finally know the final four words.
Amy Sherman-Palladino has said for the longest time that she had planned out what the final four words of the show were going to be. However, since she was not involved with the final season of "Gilmore Girls," fans were never allowed to find out what they were. But, Amy held onto them all of these years in case the show were ever made into a movie or something. Lauren Graham stated in an interview with TVLine that Amy told her what the final four words would be.
"Amy already told them to me ... She didn’t realize that I didn’t know them. It’s actually been helpful not knowing them, because people ask me and I tell them I don’t know—because I really didn’t know. You know? So I asked her, “Who says them?” And she says, “Both of you.” That’s all I can say. It’s not, you know, in unison."
So, who is the "both of you" Amy and Lauren are referring to? My guess would be...the Gilmore girls of course! It would make sense to be Rory and Lorelai, but we'll have to wait and see. I'm just glad we don't have to wait much longer.
