I hate when people say, "Why not give it a try, maybe one day I'll be successful?” As if the probability of you being successful because you tried is almost zero. We encourage ourselves to be brave enough to try new things time to time; sometimes, taking risk at a moral edge. Because we are not capable of correctly evaluating ourselves, we need to learn from mistakes we've made. Instead of living with the uncertainty of success, it's important to say to yourself, "I am willing to try, even if the result is a failure; but I'm sure I can learn a lot in the process.” Along the way, you may develop a wisdom that will guide you to the path of success after all the hardships you've experienced; but in order to achieve anything, you must take risks.
I have a friend, Steve, doing network maintenance for a foreign company. He utilized all the skills he gained from university in the workplace and quickly gained recognition from his colleagues and boss. However, he always felt like he wasn't getting rewarded for his hard work because of low wages and the lack of opportunities for promotions. But one day his best friend in college found him and suggested that they start up a company together. After an exciting talk, Steve handed in his resignation letter to his current boss and said, "I don't like having a regular job and living in my comfort zone. I'm young, I want to try something that could change the world." He began this new adventure with his college friend without having any certainty that the business would flourish.
Eventually, Steve and his partner/ college friend began to drift. They struggled with compatibility because of their different working styles. Steve learned that if people didn't know how to work together, work efficiency significantly reduces. He worked hard to be a qualified leader. He needed to master so many basic skills, such as: knowing how to evaluate market trends, making quick and wise decisions, saving the team from getting into trouble and mastering self-expression. Steve isn't a follower; he took the opportunity to get out of his comfort zone to uncover the true professional he is, a leader and a risk taker.
"The world so big, we should travel around." So many people are worried about flying blind and are preoccupied with having a plan. Nobody wants to waste their youth and their time, but sometimes you need to risk that and have the courage to uncover your new, wiser self. Honestly, it is probably the biggest waste of time to go through this process, but it's worth it. I encourage you to always make an attempt, but always being aware of the circumstances, such as: the advantages and disadvantages of the situation, who you are working with, what you want to achieve. Even if you make mistakes, remember that they are part of life and we only grow. If we find ourselves to be insufficient with regard to our goal, we should strive to improve ourselves to be fully-prepared for the next attempt. So be careful to every step, always prepare for your next move; the trail you leave will one day align perfectly because of all the risks you've taken, the wisdom you gained, and the self you found.
