An Encouragement For Girls Going Through Recruitment

You are about to experience one of the greatest weeks of your life; you're going to find your home away from home; how exciting is that?! Before you go through recruitment, I think there are a few things that you should know; some things I wish someone would've told me before I did.

Every single girl's experience is different.

Every girl gets invited back to different houses and every girl has a different amount of houses they will go to. You will sometimes go back to houses you want and you will sometimes get cut by houses you want. Do not be discouraged! There is a reason for everything, and do not compare your recruitment experience with another. Comparison is the thief of joy! You will end up where you are meant to be, trust the system.

"The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps." --Proverbs 16:9

You will hear it a million times, but God will place you exactly where you are meant to be, even if it's not what you had planned.

Always remember, His plan is greater than your plan. The Lord already knows where you are going to end up and where you will thrive. You will wonder why you got cut from a house or why you continue to have a house on your list, but I promise you (and He does too) that there is a special reason for it, even if you don't realize it until later on. Trust in that promise and His plan for you!

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us." --Ephesians 3:20

Be yourself. Seriously.

Do not try to be somebody that you are not, be the beautiful person you are! It isn't worth it, and most girls will see right through any fakeness. Find the place that you feel most comfortable in and where you could fit in. Find the girls that laugh at the same things you do, who are just as silly as you, and who make you feel loved for who you are! Don't change for anybody, be your crazy, unique self; the house you are meant to be in is going to love you! Don't hold yourself back! Nobody is perfect, we are all broken people and all do embarrassing things. Snort when you laugh, cry if you feel you have to, just be YOU.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." --Psalm 139:14

You are not defined by the houses, do not take anything personally.

I learned this one the hard way. The house that I was determined I was going to end up in, they cut me after the first round. I thought to myself, "What did I do wrong? I only talked to them for maybe ten minutes, why didn't they like me? Was I not pretty enough? Did I not "wow" them?" I'm going to let you in on a little secret, there is more that goes into it than just that conversation on the first day. Do not think you did something wrong if you get cut from a house, it just wasn't meant be. You are beautiful, my friend, and never think you aren't enough because you got cut from a house, you are worth much more than that. Be open-minded, don't get so set on one house right from the get-go and treat every single house the same. You are defined in Christ and there is no flaw in you in His eyes, remember this promise.

"But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit." --1 Corinthians 6:17

Depend on God in everything, and your week will be much more fruitful.

Bring your bible, before the day and in between parties I challenge you to read Scripture. It will put you in the right mindset for talking to people, and you will feel much more joyous and lively. Remember the promises that the Lord has for you and truly believe them. Pray if times get stressful for peace, praise him in times of celebration and gratitude. He is walking right alongside you this week, know that and feel Him there. It will make all the difference!

"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." --Psalm 119:105

Just have fun!

This isn't meant to be a week of stress and anxiety but sometimes we make it up to be. Every day is a new day. Choose joy! Don't get so caught up in what you look like, what you're going to say, and all the craziness that recruitment brings. If you choose to relax and have fun with it, your week will be much more enjoyable I can promise you that. I am so excited for you! Smile and chill out, this is a week that is going to change your life!

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." --1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

My prayer for you is that you follow your heart and choose the house that best suits you. Do not get down on yourself. Remember that God is going to place you exactly where you are supposed to be. Make it a week of love and joy instead of discouragement and trials. Be still and trust in His mighty hand! I can't wait for you to find your home!

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." --Proverbs 3:5-6
