Is it right to use the word Muslims when talking about terror?

Colby-Sawyer has provided me with an environment where religious differences are not frowned upon or even considered in normal day to day activities. This way I have never met a person who was religiously intolerant until this summer.

I was casually hanging out with my friend in a restaurant one fine day in Marlyland. A bunch of guys in their mid-20s came and started talking to us. The conversation was very normal until the topic of discussion became politics. Turns out all of them were hard core Trump supporters. They started criticizing the media for Trump's unpopularity amongst the immigrants. I spoke out saying that he blatantly says negative stuff about Muslims on national TV and how is media at fault for showcasing that. Neither of them knew that I was a Muslim too. One of the guy's response was the following:

"I think he is right about Muslims. They shouldn't be allowed in our country. Look at what they did in Orlando. Not only that but look at what they did in Europe."

I was taken a back. I was surprised to know that people actually thought about Muslims in this way. He later cared to explain that he was only talking about Extremist Muslims like ISIS and those kinds of Muslims are which Trump talks about. He used the term 'Radical Islam' quite sometimes. The situation became uncomfortably awkward when they got to know I was a Muslim.

The group went their own way but they left me shocked. I came home and cried myself to bed that night. I was feeling unsafe and not wanted. America, i thought was a country that was founded on the basis of diversity. But that group proved my thinking wrong. I knew that there are some people hostile towards Muslims. But I never thought they would be so vocal about their opinions like that.

Even though this whole encounter was a blow to my identity, it forced me to think of ways to respond back to these hate mongers.

This is what I came up with: When these people are using the word Islam they are actually talking about the whole religion and its millions and millions of followers. These are normal people like you and me. But I am sure these people would come up with an excuse by saying that the terrorist agency is also using the word Islam with their name. And this has happened to some of my friends as well. But here is the news. These people are only 10,000-20,000 in number giving a bad name to Islam by calling themselves Muslims. But there is a population of 1.6 Billion Muslims telling you that the former doesn't represent Islam. These terrorists are bombing mosques. They are killing women and children, destroying vegetation, destroying the infrastructure. All these things are not Islamic and condemned by the religion of Islam. These people are killing Muslims. They killed Muslims in Bangladesh and Turkey. They are killing Muslims in Syria. How is that justified? How can you kill the people from your own religion when Islam says otherwise. People need to understand this. Trump's rhetoric has left Muslims of the USA feeling unsafe in their own country. They are feeling threatened. The question to be asked is that why should the Muslims here in the USA should pay for what ISIS is doing when they have nothing to do with it.

I did a little more research on this and found out that President Obama also refuses to use the term "Radical Islam." Surprisingly President Bush had also taken the same stance before Obama. He said that USA's fight is not against the religion Islam. The fight is against evil. Moreover Clinton has also refused to use this term for these terrorists. It's just Trump that has been using this term very openly and been hurting the emotions of Muslims across the globe.

Now tell me. Which group are you going to believe in? The terror creating killers or the 1.6 billion normal peace loving people?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
