The Cycle Of Emotions Everyone Experiences During Recruitment, Sisters And PNMs Alike

Its that time of the year again! Spring recruitment is upon us, and no matter where in the country you are or how big your school is, recruitment is definitely one of the most anticipated times of the year for the Greek community. As a sister, you get to meet tons of amazing and talented women, have the opportunity to invite them into your sisterhood, and into your life. As a Potential New Member (PNM) you have the opportunity to meet groups of women that share the same interests, passions and values as you. Many women’s lives have been changed for the better through the friendships they have developed in their sorority. You meet the women that will stand up for you against the haters, stand with you through your struggles, and stand beside you at your wedding. Recruitment is the first step in this process of meeting women that will positively impact your life for a lifetime- however, as with all good things, there is a lot of time, effort, and emotion that gets put into recruitment. These emotions aren’t exclusive to just sisters, or just PNMs, but everyone in the process knows the rollercoaster of emotions that is recruitment.

1. Excitement with a hint of anxiety

For sisters and PNMs the time leading up to recruitment is filled with excitement, but also the anxiety that comes with meeting new people, and wanting to put your best foot forward. It's that weird mix of jittery emotion that you don’t know what to do with, but you still can’t wait for it all to get started.

2. Eagerness and Curiosity

So. Many. New. People.

From both positions, there’s so much eagerness and curiosity in meeting and talking to new people. Recruitment is all about asking the good questions and getting to really know someone.

3. Just being totally overwhelmed

No matter if you're a PNM or a sister, you've met so many new people by the middle of the week and had so many conversations that you just don't know what to do with yourself. If you do end up falling off your chair though, your sisters will defiantly be there to catch you.

4) Exhausted

There comes a point in the week where your feet hurt, you don't want to talk to anyone anymore, and your bed sounds like the best place on Earth. Yet, you push on through because you know how worth it it will be in the end.

5) Honored

Formal night is one of the best nights of recruitment week. The feeling of being invited to a formal night, and having girls you love come to your formal night, is one of the best.

6) Hopeful

The feeling before a PNM receives her bid, and the feeling that all sisters have while waiting for their new members is the same; both are hopeful that they have chosen each other.

7) Excitement all over again

The feeling of seeing your new sisters is one that can’t be beat. They say that Bid Day is like Christmas for the Greek Community, so much joy and love. It’s the day of countless hugs and pictures, countless “Congratulations!!” and “Welcome Home!!”. It’s the first day of a new chapter for everyone, which is equally exciting for new members who are entering into a new stage of their college life, and for sisters who now get to share their love and sisterhood with lots of new, amazing, and talented women.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
