For a lot of us incoming and current college students, the future is something we know is quickly approaching, but we don't always want to think about it. For some people, it's because of pure laziness, but for many others, it's because we're not sure what we want to be doing in the next five to ten years.
It's a tough situation to be in because on one hand, there's the pressure to quickly figure out what you want to do with your life (especially from your parents), and you don't want to feel like you're wasting your time in school. But on the other hand, you don't want to rush into a particular field without really knowing if that's what you want to do with the rest of your life, and it's kind of nice to just experience a lot of things at once and have many interests that could be equally successful.
You know what I think? It's completely OK to not know exactly what you're doing.
Life is about the journey, not the destination, and that journey isn't always smooth and easy to navigate. Being unsure about what you want to do with your life, or even how you want to spend your weekend, means you have the opportunity to CHOOSE. The privilege of choice is a great one because it means that you can decide what direction you want your life to go in rather than be forced to follow one predetermined path. Take advantage of that benefit and discover what you truly want to spend your life doing.
Do not let yourself be in a state of uncertainty for too long as you will eventually need to decide what you want to do with your life before the benefit of choice is gone. But don't be too worried if you haven't already planned your life out yet. Your journey has barely begun.
