1. When you don't have a tee.
Going through your pockets and realizing you don't have a tee, then going to bag then realizing you don't have a tee, and then asking your playing partner for a tee is pretty embarrassing. It can simply show the fact that you didn't come prepared or that you're just lazy to get more.
Unlike other golf equipment, these little pieces of carved wood aren't that expensive, so there really isn't an excuse to not have one. We've all been there. Asking for one isn't so bad. Asking more though is sketchy.
2. Hitting a provisional
Every golfer knows the demoralizing feeling of hitting a provisional. For those who do not know what a provisional is, it's when you have to hit the same exact shot again in case your ball is out of bounds. In other words, try again. Think about it.
You're hitting that shot knowing you just messed up less than a minute ago completely not knowing whether or not you're taking a penalty. Not only that, you're holding up the rest of the group with your poor play, and they're waiting for you to pick up the pace. The last thing you want to be is that one golfer who takes the most time.
3. Taking more than one shot in the bunker.
This is pretty much like hitting a provisional but worse. Everything you just learned about hitting a sand shot just went out the window. You're basically hitting the same shot again but this time the shot is ten times harder now that you're in the sand.
Not to mention that when you're finally out of the bunker, you have to rake the giant mess you made while playing in the sand which is a symbol of how many shots you just wasted to get out there.
4. The Shank
The one "S" word that no golfer wants to hear. A shank is a shot that goes completely sideways after the ball hits the heel of the club. Hitting this kind of shot is not only embarrassing but it completely shatters your confidence for the next golf shot.
All you think about after a shank is a shank. Then you shank it again which becomes a domino effect until you don't hit one! The trick? Stop thinking about it!
5. Missing a short putt
Ah yes, the classic three footers. If I had a dollar for every missed short putt, I'd be a millionaire. The odds of making a short put are nearly 97% and being part of that 3% is just stunning. Missing a short putt could cost you money or worse a championship.
It's surprising how often golfers can miss these. All golfers, including pros, can spend hours among hours practicing these short putts every day, yet that 3% still lurks and boom miss. Reflecting on a missed short putt is always painful.
