Going back to college means new starts and along with that can come new looks and styles for both clothing/beauty and dorm room decor. Now I know full well us college kids live life on a budget but sometimes it is worth a splurge here or there to go back in style. Thus, here are eight new fashion/beauty and decor pieces I've noticed are trending this fall.
1. Lace up shirts
This style began at the end of last year and continues to be a rising trend. EVERY trendy clothing store is selling these shirts (you can't get away from them!) and browsing through fashion magazines celebrities (think the Kardashians) wear this look. The laces can amp up a basic tank or t-shirt, and add an edgy spin to clothing. Try it out this summer if you are looking to change up basic staple tees for something a little more saucy, you can even find DIY links on youtube to do it yourself if you are on a budget.
2. Succulent Plants/Cacti
So not necessarily a fashion trend, but these plants, especially in hanging planters are featured in home design magazines due to their easy maintenance and cute aesthetic. They can easily be kept in dorm rooms without fear of having them die, and add a natural touch to any room. Yeah I know it's a little hipster but plants can brighten up the bareness of a college dorm. Also a plus: they are super affordable costing only a few dollars for a cactus or other succulent.
3. Matte Lips
Let's be honest this was most likely made famous because of Kylie Jenner. Regardless of your personal feelings towards her you have to say that she has made a killing with her lip kits. Which also led to a ton of other (wayyy less expensive) brands producing their own matte liquid lip color. Unlike the early 2000s which was all about gloss gloss gloss, matte lips are subdued and popular colors are shades of taupe and brown. I've found that NYX liquid matte lipstick stays on and has similar colors to ones found in more expensive brands.
4. Highlighter (makeup)
If you want your cheekbones to pop, use highlighter. In fact if you want your whole face to glow use it. The shimmerier the better when it comes to this product. People will notice your glow up if you start use this powder or liquid product that adds an extra touch to the usual makeup routine.
5. Statement choker necklaces
The nineties are back. chokers are back and bigger than ever with statement pieces with large embellishments to small pendants. The close fit to the neck makes them extremely noticeable and adds an extra amp to an outfit. However, this is one trend I will not be taking part in due to my fear of having things close to my neck. Oh well, I'll just have to admire from afar these on trend throwback pieces.
6. Bomber jackets
Celebrities are eating up this military inspired style with jackets in different colors and prints. This trend can work for all genders and is a great piece to add to a wardrobe during the transitional months from summer to fall. It will keep you comfortable and you will look good even as the weather gets chilly.
7. Bralettes
This is probably the best trend to happen in a decade. Bralettes are extremely comfortable, and can offer a little support without the harsh underwire of regular bras. Not to mention these babies are cute and are meant to be seen, which I know can be sooo taboo (cue eyeroll) but really these are a must if you are looking for style and comfort. Plus, they tend to run cheaper than a regular bra.
8. Boho shirts and dresses
Loose and flowy is in, aka optimal comfort once again. With music festivals and the fashion these include becoming so popular, the bohemian style has become more widespread. Think flowy sleeves and dresses, bold patterns, and an overall chill vibe when it comes to this fashion trend. Even though music festival season is over, these clothes can be implanted into fall style by pairing them with boots, and tights.
With these trends in mind you will be sure to start the new year off right! So try a few to get back in the grind in style.
