Eight Reasons Why October Is The Best Month Ever

The end of beach season has arrived and tan lines are fading, but the best month of the year is in full throttle! Here are eight reasons why October is the greatest month of all time -- in case you needed a reminder.

1. Beginning of fall. Holiday season has begun! October begins the most wonderful time of the year with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas all right around the corner. It is also time to show off your Pinterest crafting skills by overflowing your house with fun fall decorations. Plus, everywhere you go the leaves are changing colors and crunching under your feet.

2. Snack on snack on snacks. That bikini body you have been laboring over is no longer needed. October is a cheat month, and rightfully so, due to the endless supply of candy and other goodies there are to munch on.

3. Pumpkin everythang. Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin seeds. Pumpkin patches. Pumpkin picking. Pumpkin carving. Pumpkin muffins. Pumpkin beer. Pumpkin decorations. Pumpkin spice lattes. Did I get my point across?

4. Sweater weather. Stuff your face with goodies all you want, because the temperature is cooling off and it’s time for sweater weather! Bust out those boots, scarves, and happiness because it is time to be cozy. Sweater weather also means it is the infamous ‘cuffing season’ so start searching for that cute lady or man to snuggle up with and exchange body heat.

5. Scary movies. Doesn’t matter how old you get, Hocus Pocus is still scary. But this is also the perfect opportunity to bring that snuggle buddy over and watch movies. There is no better way to get in the Halloween spirit than by watching a scary movie, or Disney Channel.

6. Sport! If you are a sports fanatic like me, you can agree October is the best month in sports. First off, playoff baseball. Games are way more exhilarating during the post-season, players are playing exciting baseball and leaving their hearts on the field. SportsCenter Top 10, is crammed with clutch hits and breathtaking plays, not to mention dog piles and a little thing known as the World Series. Basketball season also kicks off Oct. 28, but my personal favorite -- football season and the boys of fall -- are in full effect! Weekends are devoted to watching football, although for most SDSU students, the best part of football season is going to tailgates, and not the actual game.

7. Halloweek. Here, at SDSU, we do not need a reason to celebrate. So when we do have a reason, the festivities start early and they go extra hard. It is the only time of the year we get to dress up however we want, wear crazy make-up, and stuff our faces with candy and plastic in our alter identity. Halloween is also the only time of the year where you purposely try to scare the poop out of yourself. Haunted houses and trails, amusement parks, who wouldn’t want to be chased by a demonic clown with a chain saw?

8. Breast cancer awareness month. Along with all the fun October is jam-packed with, it is also breast cancer awareness month. I love how sports teams find ways to incorporate pink into their uniforms, and rock it during games. But whether you are participating in Susan G. Komen walks, donating money or buying things marked with the pink ribbon label, October does a phenomenal job raising awareness and money for this unfortunate disease.

No matter what reasons make you love October, get yourself a pumpkin spice latte and make the most out of the rest of the month!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
