So finals week is just around the corner, and I know how much everybody hates studying. We have so many things going in our life that considering how education is changing our life is the last thing that we think about. Most of us take education for granted and often forget to acknowledge our ability to read and write. The pen is mightier than the sword, y’all.
In the course of getting excited about Drake dropping his new album or decoding the meaning behind Beyoncé’s “Lemonade,” do we ever just think about how important education is and that we have never appreciated education enough? Though it is expensive AF, we are still ready to do anything to pay for tuition, and the last thing we want to do is drop out.
Education, for many of us, is just a tool to get a job and it is a way to pay our bills. But education is more than that. Education is what makes us a good human; a person who is able to understand what is good and what is bad, and most importantly, it makes us brave enough to stand for what we believe in. Adding to its endless lists of benefits, education is also a powerful tool to create a crime free, healthy and a rich society. Consider the wars happening around the world; most terrorists come from the uneducated background. It is the mind of the illiterate that brings the world into wrecks and causes so much to grieve about.
Being illiterate is like being clouded by the all the negativity and it’s dark inside. There is no light of knowledge to bring the person on the right path. Be thankful for your education that you are not among a terrorist group creating chaos all around the world. Education teaches you to respect all religion, there’s no good or bad religion. Everybody should be treated equally without any labels. And credits to education that you know building a wall between two border countries is s**t-talk.
You hate the morning classes, the late evening classes, or any class that you have in the day. Every day you will catch yourself complaining about having to go to school or college. Your 11:11 wish is to get over with college stuff fast. But what about after earning your degree? Do you stop learning? No, you don’t. Learning is not a destination, which has an end point. It’s a journey and it will go with you to your grave.
While you complain about school remember that there are children around the world who are fighting for education. Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist for female education; a gunman shot her while she was returning home from school because she stood for female education. Nothing scares this young girl and she still continues to be an activist for the right to education. Talk about inspiration. This girl is my hero.
Education is one of the many things we take for granted. You will say education is expensive, but can you fathom the cost of being ignorant? Rather than hating it so much, why don’t we just try to love it and enjoy what we are learning for which we are paying thousand of dollars? What use is an education if all we are learning is for the exams and after the exams it's like we are brainwashed.
Finals week is just around the corner and I hope you find your motivation to study.
