Dear President-elect Trump,
I am writing to you as a concerned citizen. You have gone back and forth constantly, creating the idea that you are uncertain and confused about policies. Your campaign was built up through your constant bashing of your opponents and people that you once held in high regards. Will you respect everyone you work with, no matter their race, gender or sexual preference? After all, they are there to do a job, not be judged for who they are.
I am writing you as a young woman. I have seen the things that you believe are okay to say to or about women. You degrade us as if we are pieces of meat that have no thoughts or feelings of our own. I see that you have several dropped rape and sexual harassment charges. Other people see the example that you set and believe that it is okay to replicate your actions. I see that you want to send women to jail for getting abortions. I hope that you understand that we control our own bodies, and no one should tell another human being what to do with their own body. Will you respect women and their boundaries? After all, women are still human beings who deserve respect just like men.
I am writing you as an African American teenager. You seem to have a fear of people who do not have the same ancestry as you. Immigrants are also people who work hard and support their families. They are people who came to America because we call ourselves the "Land of Freedom and Opportunity." You talk about African American people as if we are uneducated and dangerous, like rabid dogs that need to be domesticated. We just want to be heard and treated like everyone else, instead of being discriminated against. You act like all Muslims are dangerous terrorists and should be deported. The best way to decrease the amount of shootings and violence we have is by enforcing gun laws. People can protect themselves with a small pistol, however most of these crimes, committed by many different ethnic groups, not just Muslims, are executed with military-grade weapons that someone can walk into Walmart and purchase without a background check or psych evaluation. Will you start addressing the weapons problem instead of blaming large groups of people? After all, no group of people should ever be blamed for one person's actions.
I am writing this to tell you why I am concerned and scared for my future. America is becoming more progressive as the years have passed. We have overcome so many challenges that paved the road to us electing our first African American President of the United States of America. I hope that, after reading this, you realize the influence that you have over the American people. I don't wish for you to have a bad term, because that would push America into a bad situation. I just wish for you to make good decisions and help America reach it's full poteintial, without the hatred and anger, but with love and acceptance.
