I have been a Conservative all of my life, and a Republican since the day I could register to vote. I believe in the power of the people to decide their lives for themselves with little to no government interference, but I also believe in the strength of moderation and the wisdom of the founding fathers, and I have become totally disgusted with the party I have been so proud to be a member. The founding fathers believed that power of the Republic comes from the vast array of ideas and the ability to compromise for the best solution.
On both ends of the spectrum, American politics have become obsessed with extremes and have been historically unwilling to compromise on those extremes. It is because of this I feel the need to say something that I think everyone, excluding the children in Washington, seems to know: Liberal policies aren't always the best choice, but, shockingly, neither is Conservatism, and in order to fix the mess that currently is the American Republic, our leaders and community members are going to have to work together. Now I am going to scold; because sometimes children need it.
To my republican friends out there, we as a party must begin to realize the difference between being a true conservative and preaching the heretical "conservatism" we see in the media. True conservatism revolves around one thing: small federal government influence, which means that we believe that issues are more properly handled at the low levels of government like state and local institutions. If you want to be a real conservative, fight against the expansive influence of the tyrannical federal bureaucracy.
True conservatism means believing that the highest authority in the United States is a document written in 1787 called the Constitution and that anything not stated on that paper is out of the government's control. True conservatism is accepting the power of God, but realizing that you are not him, so it isn't your job to decide whether marriage between two consenting people of the same gender, who are not related, is a sin. Enough with the slippery slope argument, the easiest amendment to the Constitution we could pass is as follows: "Marriage is defined as being between two humans, no matter race, creed, gender, or other identifying factors. As long as the two are over the age of 18, unrelated, and of sound mind to consent." Does this not take care of any concerns you may have?
To my friends in the Democratic Party, yes we are friends you seem to have forgotten that. It is time to stop lying to people about many of your "progressive ideas." Stop telling the masses that the rich haven't earned their fair share and should pay more taxes/ They've worked very hard to get where they are at, and deserve their success. They already hand over almost 40% of their income. Explain to me how that is fair.
An ideology that discourages success and encourages a lazy and depressed population. If you don't believe me, just look what happened in the Soviet Union. Stop telling people that the welfare system is helping the poor in the inner cities, we've been using it since the sixties and, guess what, the same people are still poor. The welfare system allows for no movement in society, but instead creates an group of indentured voters, who must vote democrat to survive. I'm not saying we shouldn't help the poor. Poverty is a huge impediment to an economy, but lets use our money to make actual change. How about we take some of that money and spend it on sending these people to trade schools to learn valuable professional skills, that will get them a good job to earn a living wage
Enough with the political games. The average American people are sick of being overshadowed by the loud radicals. Realize that there are faults in all ideologies, and work together. Stop pushing us to the extremes and allowing dangerous people like the egotistical Donald Trump and the socialist Bernie Sanders to gain popularity. We simply cannot wait anymore, these changes are vital to our strength as a country and I would hate to see an America without them.
