What It's Really Like Having A Twin

Being a twin really has its perks but also has plenty of drawbacks. Don’t get me wrong I love being a twin but sometimes you might wonder what it might be like if you didn’t have one. But if you don’t have one this is what it is really like!

1. We have almost all of the same friends

Because you are the same age, went to the same school, did the same sports, and pretty much everything in between the same, you are bound to have the same friends. All though out my life my twin Brenda and I have shared more or less the same friends. We did spend our summers apart where we made our own friends and had our own time to shine as an individual.

2. You have to share a lot

Some may think that double the people double everything.This is not always the case. Every year when our birthdays came around we needed to think of something that we both would want to do because it was “our” day, not just mine or not just Brenda’s. We shared a room. This didn’t work out so well so we ended up getting our own! We shared a bat mitzvah which ended up working in our favor because half the work and double the size of the party! For our 17th birthday, my parents were generous enough to purchase a new car but because there is two of us we have to share the car.

3. Some people might treat you as one person

Growing up in a small town everyone relates to you as “the twins”. Still to this day Brenda and I are referred to as “the twins”. Everyone thinks of us as a package deal not as separate individuals, which can sometimes be annoying.

4. You will fight because you are pretty much the same person

The one question we always get asked is “Do you and your sister fight?”. Yes, we fight just like every other set of siblings or twins.

5. You always have a best friend by your side

The best part about being a twin is that you will always, no matter what, have a best friend, no matter where you are in life. From the day I was born I have always had my best friend by my side. I have to say the best part about this is when we go on vacation. We always have each other to hang out with. I know no matter what I can always count on my sister and she always has my back!

Being a twin is amazing and I would not trade it for the world. Sometimes it is like having a clone of yourself but that’s part of the fun! I would not know what to do if I did not have Brenda as not only my twin but my best friend!
