Growing up as an identical twin, I was always bothered when someone couldn’t distinguish the slight difference between my sister and I. Everyone was always so fascinated by my life and what is was like to be a twin; however, I could never justify their fascination because I always saw myself as a regular kid. As I matured, I started to appreciate life with an identical sister and what it is really like to have a twin.
1. You can’t go anywhere together without someone staring at you and your twin.
Your waitress at a restaurant, cashier at the grocery store, or people at the airport seem to stop and stare in fascination of double vision. Haven’t you all seen a twin before?
2. People ask the same questions anytime they meet you and your twin.
No, we don’t switch classes. Maybe if we lie and say that we do everyone will stop asking.
3. No matter how many times you tell your twin to stop borrowing your clothes, they won’t stop.
After your twin goes shopping, it’s always exciting to raid their closet to check out (your) new clothes. Even though you hate it when they borrow your clothes, you can’t help but steal their new shirts from time to time.
4. Your friends catch you jinxing each other without you even realizing it.
As you both continue on with the conversation casually, your friends stare in awe that you both said the same thing out loud at the same time. What’s new?
5. Shopping with your twin is a perk.
When shopping with my twin, anything she buys is mine too, automatically. Double the clothes is always a twin perk.
6. Their friends are automatically your friends.
Anytime you meet a new friend and introduce them to your twin, they click instantly. Coincidence? I think not.
7. Everyone assumes you’re the same person.
Although we might look the same, we have different goals and passions in life. Just because my twin is artsy, doesn’t mean I can draw anything more than a stick figure.
8. You automatically have a cool fact about yourself during those name games at school.
“Hi, my name is Hailee, one interesting fact about me is I am an identical twin.” Works every time.
9. You will always have a buddy to go out with.
If you ever need a friend to eat with or shop with, you have a built-in-buddy. Your twin will never judge how much you eat either, so they are always there for you during that 2 a.m. Taco Bell binge.
10. Yes, twin telepathy is real.
Your twin can give you just one look from across the room and you know exactly what they’re thinking.
11. People always feel the need to inform you about twins in their life.
Oh, your brother-in-law’s parents have a niece who is a twin? That’s interesting, but I don’t know what it has to do with me.
