USF's sorority recruitment is just around the corner as USF's Panhellenic community prepares for potential new members. While the sisters are finishing any last minute preparation, you are probably sitting in your room stressing about recruitment; but fear not! Here are some simple Do's and Don'ts to remember while going through recruitment.
Do smile.
A smile must be worn at all times. It should be the first greeting you give and receive during your recruitment process. Smiling also make you more approachable and easy for sister to talk to you.
Don't try to fit to what you think is the image.
Sisters want to get to know the real you. If you try to be the person you think they want, you might not truly fit in with them.
Do be respectful to everyone you meet.
The sisters are taking time out of their lives just as much as everyone else going through recruitment. Be nice to each organization, even if your heart is set on another.
Don't have a closed mind.
You may start recruitment with a specific organization in mind but it's is still 100% possible that you may fall in love with another.
Do wear comfortable shoes.
For the most part you will be standing and walking a lot, so make sure your shoes don't kill your feet. Tip: you can quickly get insoles to make your shoes more comfortable at CVS or Walgreens.
Don't bring up booze or boys.
It is an automatic red flag for sisters when the potential new members they are talking to bring up anything about party's or fraternities.
Do be prepared to answer questions.
Sisters want to get to know you and will be asking question to stimulate the conversation.
Don't be scared to tell stories about yourself.
Telling short stories about your friends, family, and passion will also help keep the conversation flowing and let the sister get to know who you are.
Do think of recruitment as speed dating.
You want to get to know each organization as much as possible in the little time you have and vice versa.
Don't forget to introduce yourself.
Introducing yourself to sisters make you seem professional, friendly, and like you really want to be there. Also the sisters you meet will remember you better.
In the end, you will make a lot of new friends and leave with a great experience. Whichever organization you decide to choose, you will be joining an amazing group of women who will help support you for the rest of your life. Remember to listen to your recruitment leaders and do your research on the organizations you are interested in. On behalf of the USF Panhellenic Community, we hope you find your one true home.
