Don't Read my Article, Please!
K D Lang

I do not want you to read my article. I want you to absorb it. Please do not skim through, glancing over each line, reading the words you want to read. Do not just look for parts that you think will only be of interest to you. Nope. From this point on, I want you to sing this article. DO IT!Sing every word to a song in your head. Make your own melody or use one that is stuck in your brain; I don't care.

Just SING!

We all have a bunch of problems,

But I know we can solve some of them now,

Haha oh you know!

Sounds like it could have been something fun.

Right? These people are wrong.

Does anything ever line up?

The clocks, The clocks, THE CLOCKS!

Time, is something we can play with.

Just think about it,

Boom! Problem, Solved.

I have so many shortcuts.

You know if you start writing it will go

On and on and on, oh yeah.

Hmmmhmmm ooohhh this is what you do

If you just do the math

It will all be right there.

It can work and it will it be beautiful

Please, please!

Please do come in.

You can see,

I can see.

Ah that's cool!

Wow, did you feel that? Did you hear that song in your head? Everything you sang above was words I heard on the streets, in the halls, at work; all in random order. You may say oh no, that's a bunch of bull. I hope you're still singing now because it is not b.s. Sound is music. Music is sound. They are the same thing. They are not separate entities.

We as people love to categorize everything in the world around us. On or Off. In or Out. Yes or No. Up or Down. That list would extend for eternity. Either way, when it comes to sound, we so easily discount most sound for noise. There are so many times that sound we think of as noise is just as musical with pitch and rhythm as our favorite EDM track or Mozart Symphony.

Imagine some of your favorite shows or movies without sound or the music. They both fulfill a necessary requirement that makes them appear real; or, at least, mimic elements of real life. So why am I going on and on about this? To be honest, I don't know. It's just one of those existential questions of what is music? What is sound? What makes them pleasing? What makes them displeasing? Everyone will have their own answers. There are no correct or wrong ones.

Today I leave you with one last random song. If you sang this entire article in your head or out loud, kudos to you!

Okay,

Just push ahead.

Don't crash, no

Huh, cool!

No problem,

Keep going

What's up, can you do that?

I really want to do this!

But uh, that's fine.

That is fire dude!

It's a good place to be.

Maybe tomorrow

I've seen that happen

Rebuild again.

It's thinking, IT'S THINKING!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
