By now we all have at least one friend who has moved from our world into the Pokemon world with the new PokemonGO app. Or maybe you are that friend. Either way, people seem to have forgotten that rules still apply while you're catching Pokemon. And I am talking about the basic rules that our parents taught us growing up.
1. Don't use your phone while driving.
This one should be a no-brainer. I mean, it is even against the law. Yet, since the release of the app there have been several reported accidents where drivers were distracted by catching Pokemon in the middle of the street. There is not a single Pokemon more important than a human life, I promise you. If you want to catch Pokemon, take a walk. That is the whole purpose of the app anyway: to get you active.
2. Don't talk to strangers.
We all want to magically find our soulmate while catching Pokemon. But if you ask the wrong person whether they want to battle, it may not turn out the way you expected. Several incidents have already been reported of people being lured and jumped while playing on the app. Please reference number 5 on this list.
3. Look both ways before crossing the street.
Most people don't seem to do this with or without the app, but I just thought it would be a nice friendly reminder. Also, if you are at a crosswalk please please PLEASE wait until you see a little white walking dude before you cross the street. If you are running late enough to risk your life, then you need to set more alarms.
4. Keep your phone away in unsafe areas.
This goes for whether you are catching Pokemon or simply stalking someone on Facebook, keep your phone away when walking in sketchy areas. People will take your phone straight out of your hands and run. And unless running is your thing (it is not mine) then you're not going to see that phone ever again. Plus there is a chance that whoever took your phone will text your crush that you like him and you can't risk that.
5. Don't walk alone.
All girls know that everything is more fun in groups, even trips to the restroom. So take a friend Pokemon hunting! Maybe even take a date with you (just not a first date).
6. Be in before dark.
Pokemon need to sleep too so you won't be missing out on much. Just use the time to catch up on your beauty sleep and let your body rest. That way you're more prepared for a long day of Pokemon hunting in the morning.
I know we all want to be the very best, but we should also shift our focus and try to be very safe.
