In this day and age, it is easy to get bogged down with thoughts of inadequacy after scrolling through Instagram and Twitter. Social media constantly bombards us with the highlight reels of everyone's life, but it doesn't include any of the (many) bloopers.
When scrolling through, there's tons of happy relationship posts, candid laughing pictures, or people in another country on vacation. Suddenly, I'm worse off than I was before I opened the app, feeling boring and lame. I think most of us constantly compare ourselves to influencers and people we look up to on social media, but they all have bad days too. I make a point to not even look at my explore page because I know I'll be bombarded with pictures that make me feel horrible about myself.
With bikini season quickly approaching, don't be discouraged if your body doesn't look like someone else's! I don't have a "perfect bikini body," but it's okay!
The entire nature of social media is looking for approval from others, whether it be in the form of liking, commenting, or retweeting. This creates an environment where people feel like they can only share the good stuff to receive attention. When I post a picture on Instagram, it is always the best one out of 100+ pictures. I edit my pictures to perfection and put quirky captions that make my life seem great. I leave out all the bad, so my life on Instagram looks 1000x better than it actually is.
I know you do this, too.
Social media is a small lens into people's lives, and it is one that only shows the best of the best. Know that some of the best moments in life aren't captured on camera, and some of the worst moments in life aren't showcased on social media. You only see the bits and pieces people want you to see; you don't see their double chin while laying down in stained sweats watching a rom-com. Stop using your feeds to judge your own success in life!! You never know the crap that goes on in between posts.
P.S. your Instagram feed is just as great as the next guy because it's original to you!!
