Don't Blame The Millennials (Part 1)

We are all equally to blame. Let's be a little more open minded about this.

Don't Blame The Millennials (Part 1)

By now, I'm sure most of you have heard or read about the protests against a Trump presidency. Many Trump supporters (and some non-Trump supporters) have complained about the protests, claiming that, "millennials should stop being crybabies," "get over it, he's the president now, let's move on," or, "these people have no reason to be protesting and throwing fits." Everyone can have their own opinions about situations, but I'd like to inform you on some things you might be forgetting about the right to protest and the reason these younger people (and some older generations) are choosing to protest Trump's presidency. We need to consider a few things before we judge.

First of all, these people are still extremely young. Some of these protesters and young voters have just had a baby, just rented their first apartment, or have just started college. They are growing adults and worry about what their future holds, and how their country will handle serious situations as they try making it in America. They have their whole lives ahead of them and they have every right to be concerned about the decisions their government makes.

Not only are people concerned with their future, their concerned for their current safety and safety of their friends and family. Trump and a majority of his supporters are openly racist and prejudice against Mexicans, Muslims, blacks, and even men and women from the LGBT community. Since Trump's election, there have been many assaults, beatings, and threats towards people of different races, religions, and sexualities. Unless you are one of these people, you do not know the fear and horror they must be going through. Trump is very open about abolishing Muslims, or at least gathering them and putting IDs on them like Hitler did to the Jews right before the start of World War II. It is silly to brush this off as nothing when some families are terrified of getting thrown out of their homes or getting beaten to death by white extremists/KKK members.

Have we also forgotten our first amendment? "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Freedom of speech and freedom to protest. I also feel that it is extremely hypocritical that some complain about the millennials complaining about Trump winning. Not to mention the Republicans' ridiculous riots that occurred when Obama won the presidency both times. There were states that even threatened to recede the country when Barack Obama was elected. If the people of the United States of America feel as though they are being treated unfairly or are being cheated by their government, they have every right to peacefully protest. Yes, the riots are unnecessary and very illegal, but peacefully protesting is simply a way of letting everyone's voices be heard. Even though you're annoyed by it because you got what you wanted, there are people who are extremely angry, upset, scared, and worried about the state of the country they live in, and everyone should respect that.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
