I'm sure some of you clicked on this article expecting to see someone praising Brock Turner or saying that he's being judged to harshly. Well, if that is what you expected, click exit. Brock may be one of the most disgusting people I've ever heard of. Not only did he commit a horrid act, but he showed no remorse for his actions what so ever. However, in the midst of all this horrible news, I have come to realize that this trial has touched on some very important topics and has forced the public to realize the ugly truth about sexual crimes in America.
Thank you Brock Turner, for bringing to light Upper Class White Privilege. Each day, rapists go free for horrible life changing crimes. Your case, being so publicized and controversial, was one of the first times America could stand as a unit and declare that (big surprise) rape deserves to be punished. For the first time, I saw people of all political groups, ethnicity, religion, and race join together to fully understand the severity of this case.
Thank you Brock Turner, for allowing a tiny faith in men to be restored when you were tackled to the ground by two male grad students in order to stop your RAPE. And yes, I will repeat RAPE as much as possible because that's what you are, a rapist. I digress. Due to your case, many men have seen the backlash your actions have elicited in contrast to the praise their heroic actions have received. I hope that many men see this and chose to play the hero in situations like this and stop being a villain (or in your case, the poor victim).
Thank you Brock Turner, for making us realize that an education and a talent doesn't make you a good person. I'm glad you had the privilege to receive a high standard of education and living, but I'm horribly disappointed that it was wasted on a brain that cannot comprehend that sexual assault is an unforgivable crime. Many people insist that because you received such high scholastic and athletic honors, you were just an innocent boy. However, this plan to be perceived as a clean-cut college kid really backfired on you and instead you are portrayed in the media as the ignorant monster you really are.
I named this article "Thank You, Brock Turner" as a form of satire, yet I also hope it rings true to some people. While I wish that this poor woman never had to be hurt like that, or that the jerk had gotten sentenced to life in prison, I really think this case is shedding a massive amount of light on the topic of sexual assault. It's upsetting that it took a huge rape case like this to spread this information, but I'm glad that people are finally seeing rape as severe as it needs to be.
My real message to Brock is this: you are a bad person. You did bad things. And I'm sure you wanted this to all be swept under the rug by your rich daddy. I am beyond happy that Facebook is plastered with your mugshot and that people keep reposting your victims article and the testimonies of the men that tackled you. Your actions have changed the way people see rape. Now, a rapist is a rapist. There is no slut to blame or alcohol to put on trial. You are a criminal. And I hope you never enjoy steak or pretzels ever again.
