Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve wanted to donate my hair. I had no idea where it went, who got it, and why I even wanted to donate it. All I knew was I wanted to grow my hair out super long and cut it all off.
Fast forward to last week, I was finally able to make the cut. I had done my research and settled on sending my donation to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program.
They have a partnership with the American Cancer Society and have received over 800,000 ponytails to date. Those ponytails are then collected and matched with similar ones and made into wigs that are distributed for free to women who have lost their hair to cancer. It’s a cause that is near and dear to my heart so I was more than happy to send my hair to their organization.
Although I was super excited to finally donate my hair, I was really nervous about making the cut. I haven’t cut off a large portion of my hair in almost three years and the last time I did, I almost cried. I love my hair and I loved how long and healthy it was finally after years of letting it do its own thing. I wasn't ready to part with it and I was also really worried I would accidentally get it cut too short and it would look awful.
Sadly, when my hair is cut too short I look like a blonde version of Dora, the amount of volume I get is absolutely ridiculous. I have a few haircuts in my past that I would definitely like to forget. *Cue flashbacks and shuddering to my 6th-grade bob and a poor attempt at a lob after high school graduation*
I was also super busy over spring break so I was looking for any excuse not to make an appointment and go through with it. But somehow I was able to book a late appointment the day before I left and I found myself in Rocco and Rocco, getting ready to sit in the same chair I've sat in for the last 20 years.
I told my amazing hairdresser what I was interested in doing and she started sectioning out my hair. We were mid-conversation when I heard a giant snip and half of my hair was gone just like that. She cut the other side off and handed both the ponytails to me and I was shocked. I couldn't believe how different I looked already and she hadn't even trimmed my remaining hair yet.
After everything was all said and done, I cut off about 10 inches of hair and I was left with a gorgeous lob that I absolutely love.
