Millions of veterans are constantly risking their lives and facing many harsh conditions that most can't even begin to imagine. The amount of stress one receives while in combat zone is something that only one would understand, if experienced. Because of this, a lot of the returning veterans experience PTSD, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD is a disorder in which a person has difficulty recovering after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event. To recover from PTSD is not an easy thing and some people might not even recover from it. It can take up to years to recover from it. Things can easily trigger the person to go back into their memories and experience intense, emotional and physical movements, reacting to their past traumatic memories.
There are many different ways one can try to recover from PTSD; one can never fully recover from it, however, because anything can trigger their memories to come back. One of the biggest recovery ways is through therapy; but, as stated before, therapy won't always completely cure a person suffering.
In recent studies, one of the most effective ways to cure someone with PTSD is using a man's four-legged best friend, a dog. A dog can make a smile appear on someone's face in seconds with its friendly behavior. Dogs show a love to their owner that words can't describe. By showing their playful and loving nature, dogs have been a very effective way to help one with PTSD. Dogs are trained to complete various tasks that support veterans when they experience difficulty with their symptoms. They're always by their side and in a gradual process, they heal one suffering from PTSD.
