3 Reasons Why My Dog Is My Best Friend
Katlyn Johnson

I have a six-month-old, Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix named Rosie. I love her so much! My dad surprised my family with her one day when he came home from his truck driving job. He told us that someone was giving away free puppies in front of the Walmart he went to. My mom was livid because she is not the biggest animal lover, but I could not have been happier because I have always wanted a dog. Rosie and I have become extremely close and I truly feel that she is my best friend. Here are a few reasons why:

1. She loves me no matter what.

My Rosie will stick by me even when I do the weirdest things. I am always singing at the top of my lungs or poorly trying to rap along to a song I am listening to and Rosie will stay right by me. She does not make fun of me, she just looks at me with those beautiful brown eyes and she gives a slight smirk.

2. She looks out for me.

The Jack Russel in her, causes Rosie to be very protective and the Chihauhau in her causes her to be very territorial. Rosie is always trying to protect me and my family. She barks nonstop at strangers, is ready to attack whenever the doorbell rings, and she sits guard at the front window. She may run away once approached by strangers, but she has good intentions.

3. She makes me laugh.

Rosie is always doing something crazy. You can look away for one second and turn around, she will be up on the kitchen table. My sister had a burrito from Taco Bell sitting on the table go missing and my family is 80% sure Rosie stole it. Not only does she climb on the table, she likes to dig through the trash and make a mess. It is aggravating because I have to clean it up, but it is just the funniest thing. Rosie is honestly so crazy. When she's outside and thirsty, she will stand up on her hind paws and drink from my mom's water fountain. The last thing that Rosie does to make me laugh is acting like a cat. I am pretty sure that has some sort of cat in her because she does things cats normally do. She scratches me in a way a cat would and she jumps on things in a fashion similar to a cat. If we put her outside, we see her sitting or standing on the very top of the furniture looking very majestic.

I love Rosie so much and I am extremely happy that she is a part of my family!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
