Dear you,
“You may not be perfect but sweetheart, you’re good enough for me.” That’s the quote that showed up in my Timehop the other morning. And in case you were wondering who told me that, it was you. Thank you. Thank you so much for loving me. Thank you for showing me what love was supposed to look like from a couple's standpoint. A relationship isn’t about just the physical aspect. It’s about so much more than that. I know we were in high school, and we “didn't know what love is” at that point, and yes, we were young and dumb, but you taught me so much. Thank you for being silly with me.
Thank you for washing my car with me in the middle of the summer. Thank you for always smelling good, even during the heat of summer band. Thank you for making me laugh when I never thought I would smile again. Thank you for coming to see me when I had a bad day at work. Thank you for loving when I couldn’t even love myself. It’s taken me a long time to learn to let you go. I’ve been holding onto some sliver of hope that you’ll come back to me. But I know that will never happen, and I’ve decided to accept that. But thank you for setting my standard for boyfriends. I’ll never settle for anyone. I wish for you the happiest life. A long life filled with love and joy.
A life where you succeed at any goal you set for yourself. A life without me. I wish all these things for you because these are the things I want for myself. I want a happy life filled with love and joy where I succeed at any goal I set my mind to. But my life will be a life without you. That used to make me so incredibly sad. Just thinking about my life without the only person in the world who has been my best friend, my confidant, my safe haven and my boyfriend used to make me regret every decision I made in high school that didn’t benefit our relationship. But now I see it’s completely for the best. We both have changed into two entirely different people. Two individuals who deserve better than what we could give each other. You may not have been my lobster, but you’ll always be my great white buffalo.
Love,
Me
