Why District Coffee House In Boise Is The Best

Even though I’m new to Boise, that didn’t stop me from hearing about the District Coffee House. Everyone I know was raving about it and I was dying to try it. First off, I had no idea how adorable downtown Boise was. Everyone I follow on Instagram was constantly tagging pictures there. I’ll admit, I was jealous. I wanted to go, but parking downtown is ridiculous and "ain't nobody got time for that". Finally, I manned up and went. I’m so glad I did, here's why:

Inexpensive:

When I first heard of this place, it sounded uppity. I figured the prices would be even higher than Starbucks. I was wrong! It’s actually fairly inexpensive and totally in the price range for college kids (unless you’re buying an endless supply of lattes).

Vibes:

The District is such a chill place. They have couches filled with awesome throw pillows, plenty of tables to do your homework on, and a seating area outside. The tables and chairs outside are blue, which just so happens to be my favorite color (brownie points). Also, who doesn’t love succulents, they have them set out everywhere and they’re adorable - although it is quite possible that they are all fake. The baristas are really cool, which helps out so much. They have great recommendations and are so fun to talk to. Whoever does the training/hiring needs to give themselves a pat on the back!

Events:

Not only can you grab an espresso to help you finish your homework, they have live entertainment a few times a month too! Some upcoming FREE events are:

(October 22nd @ 7:30 PM) Rougues Among Us, a prog/pop band from Houston

(October 28th @ 7:30 PM) Karyn Ann, a singer/songwriter from Portland

(October 29th @ 7:30 PM) Open Mic. Night

Non-Profit:

I’ll admit, this isn’t something I knew from getting coffee there. Although, I did find it on their website and it makes them that much better! They are a non-profit company that works with an organization named Send Hope. The goal is to raise money and awareness to support orphanages over in India. That’s pretty awesome if you ask me! Also, I’m sure you guys have heard of pending coffee before. If not, it’s a really cool concept! Basically, you buy two coffees and only get one. They have a board where they keep track of how many “pending” coffees they have. When someone comes in who can’t afford any or if you just forgot your wallet that day, grab a pending coffee. Hello, good karma.

Quality:

You might find yourself wondering.. what about the coffee? Is it any good? The answer is yes. I tried a couple different items on the menu just to make sure. I’d definitely recommend the Nutella Latte though, especially if you need a pick me up while doing your homework! Don’t forget to tell them you want it to stay, you’ll get it in a real mug instead of a paper cup.

All in all, it’s safe to say this is my new favorite spot. Don’t believe me? Go check it out for yourselves - 219 N 10th St! Get some cool apparel, a lovely cup of coffee, and enjoy your day!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
