When you think of the notorious Walt Disney World, I'm sure some memories of your childhood come to mind. At 19 years old, I got to experience Disney World with a whole new perspective. As a young adult, I was still able to appreciate the magic of Disney World, but I was also able to appreciate how the "Imagineers" made the magic seem so... magical.
First things first, the new Avatar ride, Avatar Flight of Passage, was hands-down, the best ride in all Disney World parks, but as my fellow Odyssey creator states in her article "Pandora In Animal Kingdom Was Beautiful, But The Rides Weren't Worth The Wait," the wait was way too long. Being that I was staying on-site, I had access to "Extra Magic Hours" whenever it was offered.
Animal Kingdom opened at 8 a.m. one morning, so my boyfriend and I took the opportunity to get on the new Avatar ride. We thought that not only would no one be up that early, but how many people actually take advantage of the extra hours? Well, we thought wrong. It seemed as if everyone staying on-site had the same idea we did.
We got there at exactly 8 a.m. and we were on line for an hour and a half, which, believe it or not, isn't too bad for a ride that's usually closer to five hours. By the time we left, the line was up to a 270-minute wait! However, we did have a FastPass a few days later and we got right on.
The ride itself was incredible! If you have ever been on the ride Soarin' in Epcot, it is similar to that, but even better! I don't want to spoil the ride for those who haven't been, but if you're going anytime soon, I definitely recommend getting a FastPass for it! Ghirardelli Chocolate Company store and we split the BEST ice cream cookie sundae. It was a pre-dinner snack.
Also, it took everything I had to bury my shopaholic tendencies – especially in Kate Spade! Also in Disney Springs, my boyfriend and I went to this 1920's themed restaurant, The Edison, which was super cute and if you love The Great Gatsby, or anything 1920's-related, I highly recommend. After our lovely dinner, we went to see Tommy Wiseau's "The Room" at the movie theater.
If you have not seen that movie, look up clips on YouTube because I can't do it justice when explaining.
The firework shows were awe-inspiring. It took awhile to get my jaw off the floor after every show I watched. The music that is perfectly timed with the fireworks is so fascinating because I just sat there like "How did they do that?!?!?"
Fireworks, in general, are peaceful to watch, but the fireworks in Disney World are taking that to another level. Before one of the shows, I was freezing! I remember thinking "I'll head inside before it's over" because it was too cold, but the fireworks were so mesmerizing that I was compelled to stay and not look away for a second.
Although I was too mesmerized to snap a pic during the show, I was sure to take a picture of the pretty view I had from California Grill in the Contemporary Resort.
I don't think I can explain what a fun and eventful vacation this was in one article because there is just so much to tell. So, to get to the point of this article, Disney World is absolutely amazing. Going as a young adult allowed me to really appreciate everything about it.
I, of course, went to a character breakfast, because you are never too old to be a princess, but I also went on a really sophisticated date night with my boyfriend, found myself interested in how things in Disney World were built and came to be, and, most importantly, I grew so much closer to the person I thought I was already super close to. I am so super grateful that my boyfriend and his family invited me to experience the magic of Disney with them.
