The topic of gun control has become a major debate in this day and age. A day rarely goes by that I don't see something on my TV, computer, or cell phone about it. With all of the shootings that have occurred over the last few years, many more people are supporting the idea of creating gun control laws to "stop gun violence."
But the funny part about this is that most of these people have no idea what they are talking about. So many people are critical of guns because they have never been around them. They have never gone out to the shooting range and learned how to handle a weapon. But, how can you really be against something that you have no real knowledge of?
Here's the deal: gun control laws will NOT stop gun violence. If a person is going to shoot someone, gun control laws aren't going to stop them. Do drug dealers stop making and selling drugs just because they are illegal? No. Does a law that the speed limit on a road is 35 stop people from driving 50 when they are in a rush? It does not. So, here's my question: what exactly makes people believe that gun control laws will stop gun violence?
So many people believe that removing guns will stop shootings and stop people from getting killed. But what am I supposed to do when a criminal who doesn't follow the law gets a gun and comes after me, who no longer has a gun? We do not need to take away our guns. Instead, we need stricter background checks in order to weed out the criminals as efficiently as possible. We don't need fewer guns; we need more guns in the hands of the people who will be able to stop the criminals.
If I am in a gas station and someone comes in carrying a gun and threatening those inside, am I more useful with or without a gun? Obviously, I would be more helpful with my gun because I would be able to stop the criminal before they began shooting. Without a gun, I would be left at the mercy of the criminal, who could begin shooting at any minute.
The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, adopted in 1791, gives me my right to bear arms. So why now, 225 years later, do people think that it is perfectly okay to take away this right? The Founding Fathers put in this amendment that these rights "shall not be infringed" upon. Does this mean nothing anymore? The Constitution is the law of the land, my land, and it needs to be followed.
You still don't believe what I'm saying? Take a look at this:
A baseball bat is the number one weapon used in violent crimes, but no one talks about this because it would be a lot loss likely to get people to agree that baseball bats should be taken away. 5,306 more homicides are non-firearm related than firearm related. Tobacco use accounts for 517,507 more deaths than guns in this country. So, why are guns considered to be the problem?
My concealed weapon does not put you in danger. The guns I own for sport do not put you in danger. I'm more likely to save your a** from getting shot than I am to shoot you myself.
I should not have to give up my protection when criminals are out there disobeying the law. I should not have to give up my rights to make uneducated individuals feel "safe". Guns do not kill people... people kill people.
Disarming me will NOT protect me... and trust me; it won't protect you, either.
