There are many words I could use to describe my brother: wonderful, kind, silly, loud, a bit nosey, and persistent. Different is another word I would use, and that’s what makes him special.
My brother is the holiday man. Every holiday he likes to set up the decorations as soon as he possibly can before the occasion. He is also the soda man, the pretzel man, and the chips and salsa man. Stevie still loves wrestling as much as he did back in the 90s and back when our trampoline was still functional, he would wrestle the best of them (including a younger me). His favorite things to do are fixations, like watching wrestling on Thursdays or looking at CDs on Amazon daily.
My brother has Aspergers syndrome. That is not something I would have used to describe him, but I know now that is a part of what makes him individual. It usually comes after the introduction for my friends. The words above are more apt to tell you something about him rather than his diagnosis; his kindness speaks more than his quietness, his loudness is not always because he is overwhelmed, or because he wants to be heard.
I remember one winter day when we had both gotten sick on the same day (which was caused by my other brother, unfortunately). We played video games for a couple of hours on our old Nintendo 64. "Mario Party 2" was our favorite, of course. So we ate soup on the couch in our pajamas, and nowadays we don’t do much like that, but I remember it so fondly to this day.
He used to go trick or treating until he was about 25, but he started growing a beard when he was close to 18. He stopped going because everyone told him he was too old, but I always took him with me anyways because he loved it so much. It gave him something to look forward to every year.
Stevie is one of my favorite people in the world. What makes him different is what makes us as his family and friends love him so much. His ability to remember every Beatles album and release date is not only incredibly cool, but it’s awesome to see him enjoying something with everything he has. My brother’s laugh is one of my favorites in the entire world. It becomes so high pitched sometimes when he’s truly amused. He sings a similar way: giving it all he’s got because we all know he knows every single word and isn’t afraid to sing it.
The perfect word to describe my brother is probably just by his name. It’s impossible to encapsulate someone’s identity with just one word when they’re as interesting as Stevie is. He doesn’t do much talking, but if anyone needs facts, or someone to listen to, he’s there. We don't need to hang out a lot because he prefers privacy, but we have nothing but love for each other anyways. I’ve never met anyone as good at giving hugs as he is and so willing to. Despite the fact that he has Aspergers, he is always ready to share love and make sure everyone is doing alright.
Rock on, Stevie.
