As someone who picked up Destiny in it's initial state soon after release I was excited to see Rise of Iron, with the hope that it might be able revitalize the game somewhat.
Bungie's Destiny experience has been full of some very high points alongside some very low points. Updates such as 'The Taken King' were introduced as revolutionizing the game itself, but for many players such as myself the update ended up doing more harm than good. While the road to hitting max level can be insteresting as much of the game is still being pioneered by the player, it's the end game and/or the lack thereof that can and will make or break any MMORPG even if it's also an FPS.
Destiny offers a wide array of uniquely operating and marvelously performing weaponry, from assault rifles with the ability to chain lightning to rocket launchers whose projectiles track their targets only to then explode and create even more projectiles. However throughout the many DLC's there has only been a somewhat mediocre selection of exotic weapons added into the meta-game, so players will have been using many of the same weapons they've been using throughout different generations of gameplay; which would be better appreciated if the enemies weren't similarly recycled.
The Rise of Iron DLC and more recently The Dawning event have done what most if not all of the various DLC's have done. These changes include re-skinned enemies-with slightly altered abilitilies and tactics, recycled maps with mildly altered environments, a handful of new sparrows and new weapon skins for the same old weapons.
Probably one of the most interesting yet sometimes frustrating aspect of The Dawning event has been the return of Sparrow Racing. Truth be told it was only upon seeing Sparrow Racing announced that I even re-installed Destiny. It's not quite as enthralling as Pod Racing is in Star Wars, but it serves up for some intensely thrilling moments.
While there may not be new classes as many had hoped there is much to do as far as both PVP and PVE go. Happy Holidays Guardians.
