This year I was way more sad to leave my school for winter break than I was happy. I was enjoying my time with my friends and sorority sisters and did not want to spend a month apart from them. As I am now sitting at home in my childhood room in my parents house, I am so happy it's finally Christmas Break! Here is why we deserve Christmas Break.
1. No studying.
It did not come to my mind that I would not have to open a textbook for nearly a month until earlier today. I could not be more thrilled, truthfully. The thought of opening a textbook on judicial process could turn my stomach. Instead of reading those textbooks you spent hundreds of dollars on: pop open a book to read for pleasure. I have so many books I never get the chance to read, but Christmas Break is the best time to do it! If you don't have any new books to read, reread Twilight. (you know you'll get a laugh out of that one -- hello, seventh grade).
2. Netflix.
Every day I get on my Twitter timeline and am shocked by the people always tweeting about how they are watching Netflix -- how do they have time for that? Well now that it is Christmas Break, we can finally watch Netflix without feeling guilty that we are not studying! Make a good use of that $8 a month. Binge watch every Matthew McConaughey rom-com -- you earned it!
3. Food.
Goodbye, meal plan! Goodbye, cafeteria! Goodbye, the same four restaurants in the food court! Finally, a month were ramen noodles is not a gourmet meal. Home-cooked food, college students love you.
4. Sleep.
Say no more to 8 a.m.'s! I am so excited to go to sleep tonight and not set an alarm. Did I just say that? Not set an alarm? That almost seems too good to be true. Am I dreaming? I probably am because of all the sleep I can get on Christmas Break.
5. Happy holidays.
The best part of Christmas Break -- the Holidays! Every building, store, and home is so beautifully decorated and everyone just seems to be in a better mood this time of year. What a great time to spend a month at home when you know there is a smile around every turn.
6. The best for last -- going back to school.
Going home for school for a month really makes you realize how great college is. They say absence makes the heart grow fonder and it is so true. How I knew I was at the right school was because I was itching to get back when I left.
Going to college is so awesome, plain and simple. You get an admirable education while making life-long friendships. But at the end of a semester, there is nothing better than going home and appreciating what you have at school and what you have back at your old address.
Now that is it Christmas Break, treat yo'self!
