Success is a tricky word to define. Truth be told, it’s all about perspective. Different people approach the idea of success with differing viewpoints. There are people who say success is strictly measured by numbers, like lofty salaries or season statistics. Some people consider success to be an accomplishment. Others think it is solely defined by a person who achieves greatness. Neither are right or wrong since success is based on the individual’s happiness.
Success can be seen in many varying senses: a person who reaches their goals either in their professional or personal life, a team who works together to win a championship or a company who makes a large profit. And that’s not all the ways success can be assessed. A large portion of success roots from inner confidence and satisfaction. The late beloved and knowledgeable author Maya Angelou once said, “success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” Another key to success is having willpower. When I think of success, I recall a quote I once heard in a YouTube video about an athlete training diligently titled “How Bad Do You Want It?”. There is a powerful moment in the video that I just cannot forget, even five years after seeing the video. “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful,” says the man recording the voiceover. Those who are truly driven will become successful, those who only minimally care about success will never actually make something out of their goals. Without ambition, without dreams, we would be useless humans. The next time someone discourages you from dreaming big, ignore them. Keep dreaming, just be sure you are wholeheartedly committed to seeing your dreams become a reality.
If you want to be successful in life, you should be resistant towards changing your goals, but flexible about your methods regarding meeting your goals. The road to success is a serpentine path filled with twists and turns and sometimes totally unclear. Your perceptions about the world will change a lot over the course of your lifetime, regardless of whether or not you achieve what you aspire to. You will lose the people you love, you will experience pain and hardship, and you will experience moments of joy as well. No matter what happens in your life, you have to keep your head up and remember that everything will be okay in the end. The moment you reach the pinnacle of success is the moment you will not easily forget. Achieving your personal goals is an infectious, euphoric, triumphant feeling.
