Dear Roomie,
It’s finally time for us to be real adults and live in our own rooms.
While this is great news considering we have way too many clothes to fit in a shared room, I’m going to miss having you by my side 24/7 (literally). It has been 2 years full of ups and downs for the both of us, and there’s no one else I’d rather have been on that roller coaster ride with.
I’m going to miss our attempts to hold each other’s hand from our beds.
It’s kind of sad that both rooms we shared were so small as to make that successful. I’m going to miss the late nights when I’m unable to fall asleep, and I can just start talking aloud to you about whatever’s on my mind. We’ve definitely had our fair share of weird, deep, and pointless late night conversations, all of which have become some of my best memories of being roommates and best friends.
In general, I’m going to miss having you there to talk to whenever I want.
Well, that is, when neither of us was doing homework. Thank you for never failing to listen to every little thing I had to say, no matter how annoying or silly it may have been. Even after going off on about 5 different tangents, you managed to still be paying attention to me, after giving me a constructive yell to get back to the point of the story, of course.
Thank you for being my rock, and slapping me back into place when I was out of bounds.
I could tell you absolutely anything, from my schoolwork stresses to my friendship drama to my relationship problems, and you’d always be there to listen to me and give me advice. That advice includes telling me when I sound ridiculous and when I need to change my behavior and when I need to put myself first for once. From bursting of laughter to tears rolling down my face, you have been there with me through everything I’ve experienced in the past 2 years. I know I can be a lot to handle at times, and being my unofficial therapist is something I am forever grateful for.
Thank you for letting me share your closet.
Having not one, but two closets right next to each other to look through basically made it feel like we had a shopping mall’s worth of options. At the times when I took everything out of my closet and drawers and threw it all onto the floor in a frantic state of panic, you (and your closet) would always be there to save the day. I don’t know what I’d do without you on those early mornings before class when I just wasn’t feeling any of the sorority sweatshirts I own, or on those nights when I needed a different crop top to wear out.
Thank you for being my personal chef.
On the days when I ran out of food or didn’t feel like eating another sandwich from the dining hall, you and your chicken nuggets/grilled cheese were there to save me from extreme hunger. And to go along with this, thank you for being my grocery store companion. We went through food quite a lot, considering all we really did was go to the library, sleep, and eat. Wegmans trips, especially in the snow, were sadly necessary, and I wouldn’t have wanted to wait for the bus in the freezing cold with anyone else.
Thank you for being my study buddy and motivator.
It was definitely hard for me to find the motivation to do the piles and piles of work that comes with being a pre-med major, but having you doing homework 3 feet away helped me want to be productive, too. Your excitement when I did well on a test and your reassurance that I’d do better next time when I got a bad grade meant the world to me. Trekking to the library at night in the freezing cold weather of upstate New York was definitely a challenge, and I’m glad I had you by my side in the library, not being quiet like we were supposed to, of course.
Thank you for being my twin and my partner in crime.
We're known for always being together, and looking alike definitely helps with that. Especially when people, including our closest friends, call us by each other's name. I think it's hysterical when we look at pictures and don't remember taking them, soon realizing the other is the one actually pictured. I'm so glad to be your best friend, and I love being attached at the hip with someone as amazing as you.
It’s a pretty good thing you’ll be a few doors down from me in the same apartment this year, because I don’t know what I’d do without having you around all the time. Here’s to another great year as (now) housemates and (still) best friends. I love you lots!
