An Open Letter To My Future Big

I'm so ready to meet you!

Dear Future Big,

I've only been in this sorority for a short amount of time and I'm already dying to meet you. I hope you're as excited as I am! Before you take me on as your little, there are a few things I want to share with you.

I never really pictured myself in a sorority. I had considered going Greek earlier, however, those organizations just weren't a great fit for me. When I found our sorority, I knew things were different. If I ever seem shy at events, please know deep down that I'm really not! This is all a new experience to me and I'm still taking it all in. Once you get to know me, I'll never shut up.

I'm glad you have a big heart and are willing to help others through service projects. I'm passionate about helmet safety, mental health awareness and spending time with youth. I can't wait to hear what causes and charities are close to you.

As a child I constantly begged my parents for siblings. Being an only child was super boring. I'm just as excited to have a big sister now as I was as a kid, even if you're my younger big sister. I want to be your friend and I already love you, even though I don't know who you are yet.

I hope you and I have things in common that we can bond over. If we don't, I hope you and I discover some of those things together. Part of me also hopes that we have different interests too. I believe I can learn a lot from you, and vice versa.

Creativity is a huge plus for me! I love surprises and I can't wait to see what all you have up your sleeve. Gift giving is my love language and it's gonna be so hard for me to not be able to give you gifts! I've already seen so many things I want to make/have made for you and I.

Please don't be bummed out by the fact that I'm not a freshman. While I may not be in the sorority for four years, I always want to be your friend. I'm so excited about making great memories with you before I graduate. We'll be sisters forever.

Above all else, I hope you accept me and all my flaws. We both won't always be perfect people, but it doesn't mean we can't respect our differences. I can't wait to bond with you and learn more about you. I'm so ready for our big/little reveal already!

All my love,

Your Future Little

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
