Dear Little, I Promise

You will forever be my little.

Dear Little, I Promise
Chelsea Cook

After lying to you for a week, I felt that this was the best time to write this piece. I don't know how I got lucky enough to be blessed with you. In a very short time you have become my favorite person alive. I know you have heard horror stories about bigs and littles not getting along or growing apart but I won't let that happen to us. I became your big for a reason. I know it will be hard since I am leaving for a semester but I plan to be the best big you could ever ask for. To do this I have some promises to make, so here they go.

1. I promise to be there for you no matter what.

It could be a major life altering event or something as small as passing a test. Either way, if it's a big deal to you then it's a big deal to me. I will do whatever it takes to be excited with you in that exact moment. I know I will be busy but we'll figure it out. I am also down for those unplanned Wal-Mart or hospital runs when you're sick. My big had to do them for me so I guess it's only fair.

2. I promise to spoil you.

I knew the day I found out you were my little that I would be broke more often. Crafting for you is my favorite past time. I will now officially spend more money on you than myself. That being said, you don't have to spoil me back. I am your biggie. It's my job.

3.I promise to never let our connection fade.

I knew that leaving next semester would complicate it. Then again, we would have been separated over summer break anyways. I know a lot of big/little pairs lose their bond after a long time apart but I promise you that won't happen with us. You are mine forever now. I am you lifelong best friend that you're forever stuck with now. Deal with it.

4. I promise to love you unconditionally.

This is the biggest promise of them all. We may have our differences and our fights but at the end of the day you are my little. Despite the ups and downs and wherever life may take us nothing will ever change that we picked each other. I love you more than you will ever know and always will.

Ultimately, these promises shouldn't have to be said but I decided to make it clear. We picked each other and you're stuck with me now. I'm kind of sorry that you got stuck with this hot mess of a big. Just know that no matter what, you will always have me. Nothing can ever compare to the bond between a big and little. You are my favorite person in the world and I already couldn't imagine my life without you. I love you lots, little.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
