Dear High School Students

I've lived in this place and I know all the faces, each one is different but they're always the same.

Your last semester of high school has just started, but what do you do now? There are so many tips that I think every graduating senior needs to know. I know I totally sound like an old woman, but I'm only 20 so I'm not that old. High school is supposed to be the time of your life and sometimes it is, but sometimes it's not. There are so many things that I learned AFTER graduating. I was just like you, so excited to finally walk across that stage and get my diploma. There is so much I wish I'd known then, though. So here are just a few of my tips.

1. Make the most of every day!

I know this is what everyone says, but its totally true. Seriously, go to every pep-rally. I skipped every one of my pep-rallies my senior year and I regret it so much. If your school offers a senior trip, go on it! I promise it will be the best time of your life! My graduating class went on a trip to Washington D.C. and Virginia Beach; this will forever go down as the best week of my life. We made so many memories and became so close. My school does a Project Graduation, which was seriously the best night! We all spent the night of graduation playing games and making memories. We got to spend one last night together, which was so emotional.

2. Go to class!

Trust me, I totally know how tempting skipping class can be. Ask anyone I graduated with, I probably skipped class at least three fourths of the year. Seriously go to class! I know you don't think it's fun right now, but it'll all be worth it in the end. College was such a hard adjustment for me because I never went to class in high school.

3. Make memories!

I don't even care what you're doing. If you're having fun, take pictures! Who cares who's looking at you? You'll want to remember every single thing that you've done. Do everything that you've ever want to do because soon after you walk across that stage, adulthood will start and it's way different then you'd expect it to be.

4. Go to Prom!

I know some people are super apprehensive about going to prom, but go! I went three years and I had a blast each time! I know it can be super stressful finding a date, picking a dress and getting ready but it's all worth it! I seriously envy all the girls that still get to go find their prom dresses this year!

When you walk across the stage this year everything will change. You'll lose friends, even best friends, but it's just a part of life. Make sure you make the most of this year, because you'll never get to do it again!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
