Dear Future Friends,
Over the years I have come to know many wonderful people that today I call my close friends. Some have carried over from high school, some were met at work and some were met through mutual friends. The reason we have stayed friends is because we have a respect for one another, back each other up, get real when needed and stalk the shit out of any ex or potential date. However, the one thing that has truly kept us going over the years is our devotion to all things delicious—food.
So future friends, as much as look forward to meeting you someday, I do ask, for the love of our potential friendship, please love food.
My best friends today know, for the most part, what I may order when going out. And I can pretty much guess what they'll order, say for the random cravings day, but then you just learn even more about your loved ones. My friends know I love buffalo anything, grilled chicken, a hearty salad, bacon/steak anything (yes please!) and will almost always say yes to fries; unless I'm feeling bloated, but even then I'll try to carry on. In an odd way, knowing what we’ll order is like saying “I love you.” We listen to one another and understand how we operate; down to what we crave and how those cravings my change during certain periods of the month. If one of my friends is craving chocolate and I can’t keep my hand out of the potato chip bag, we may ask one another, “When are you due?” And we’re not talking babies, though nowadays that is becoming more of a reality…Food is a love language shared by my friends and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
The beauty of food, which many people have come to understand, is that it brings people together and more importantly makes them feel awesome! When my friends are sad or going through a hard time I know that their favorite treat will put a smile back on their face. And they know that if I'm having a bad day a cupcake, or McDonald's fries will instantly lift my spirits. During times like these calories and saturated fats are thrown out the window; we'll go to the gym later. As girls, we understand retail therapy, but we've also recognized the power of a cookie and Nutella to conquer any temporary ailment.
Future friends, what you need to understand is that with great friendship comes great food. If you want dessert, we probably want dessert too. Too afraid to say yes to that second helping? Fat ass, go for it! Because we love you for that! Trust me, if you're feeling down like, "OMG my hips!" We got you! Eat this hearty sandwich and let's go to the gym. We may talk more than we burn calories, but you'll feel better and your squat formation will improve over time! Got a wedding coming up and you didn’t exactly hit your weight goal? First, we will never make you feel ashamed for that, and second we all know where to buy the best Spanx so you fit into that dress. We will always have you covered.
Food and friends just goes hand in hand. We understand balance, but some days eating a sleeve of Oreos dipped in Nutella and smother in whip cream is ok—we’ve all been there. As a friend you will never feel alone and never go hungry!
I look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Megan
