How To Deal With Roommate Separation Anxiety
University Primetime

With the holidays coming up, every college student knows what that means. Once you survive the worst week of the semester, a.k.a. finals week, it's time to pack all of your dirty laundry and drive or fly back to your hometown for a month. It's a month filled with visiting family, hanging out with people from high school, running into people you don't really want to see, and being apart from your roommate.

Luckily, my roommate only lives two hours from me at home so I don't have to go the entire break without seeing her, because I'm pretty sure I couldn't actually make it an entire month without her. However, if it's more than a short drive between you and your roomie, you'll have to deal with the inevitable separation anxiety. A month apart from your roommate will probably feel like a lifetime, so there are a few ways to deal with being apart.

Text your roommate as soon as you wake up.

Keep your roomie updated on every single thing you're doing so it's like you're not apart at all. They definitely need to know what you're eating for breakfast, what you're binge watching on Netflix, and the moment you see your old high school nemesis.

Snapchat your roomie at least once an hour.

If there isn't a red heart next to your roomie's name by the end of winter break, you obviously don't miss them at all. Use the time apart as a way to improve your snap streak.

Start a list of all the fun things you'll do once you're back together.

Time apart is time wasted, so you need to brainstorm everything you'll be doing all next semester. Pick restaurants, plan a trip to the zoo, anything fun for when you reunite.

Dedicate all of your social media to how much you miss your roommate.

Take advantage of every #transformationtuesday, #throwbackthursday, and #flashbackfriday to remind everyone how your roommate is actually your soul mate and get your followers excited for all the fun pics you'll post next semester. You don't want people to forget how awesome you two are.

FaceTime your roommate every night.

If the constant stream of texts and Snapchats wasn't enough, at least you can spend your nightly Netflix binges together.

Download a countdown app so you know exactly how long it will be until you reunite.

It's absolutely crucial to know how many days, hours, minutes, and seconds there are until you're back with your roommate.

The holidays can be a rough time, but with a little bit of effort you'll survive the separation and be back together in no time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
