11 Times You Miss Your Roommate

The few months of freedom is actually really lonely.

11 Times You Miss Your Roommate

It's hard to imagine what it would be like without your roommate until summer vacation comes along. When you're like two peas in a pod, being multiple miles way from each other is saddening.

1. Crawling Into Bed With Them

Whether you were having a bad day or just needed a cuddle session. Your roomie's bed was always welcoming. Being alone in your own bed is not as comforting.

2. She Was Your Second Mom

She may not have be real your real mom, but she was always their to tell you from right and wrong, help you decide what to wear, tell you who not to talk to, buy you things (usually food) just because, and cheer you up when you were sad.

3. You Shared Everything

When you come home from school, it's a weird feeling having all your stuff to yourself. It's almost too weird, it feels wrong. "Why is there still a whole bag of popcorn here?", "None of my clothes are missing?". You realize you don't have to share anything anymore, yet you don't know if you like that or not.

4. No Judgements

They could have done something completely crazy, but you would never judge because usually you're doing it with them.

5. Sarcasm Was Always Present

Some people hate sarcasm. But it was part of your every day conversations. It's not the same over text messages and no one else understands.

6. Inside Jokes

Of course you had inside jokes. But seeing each other's reactions and funny accents were the best parts of the jokes. Being so far apart honestly, ruins the joke.

7. Waiting For Their Reaction To The Text You Just Sent Them

You would text each other in public, trying to make the other laugh. You would sit and keep looking at their face waiting for their reaction, trying not to ruin it. Not seeing their face every time you text them something funny is almost heartbreaking.

8. No One Keeps You Quite As Motivated

When you were feeling blue, they were always there to push you, to pick you back up, to wipe away the tears. Something as silly as eating a salad with you instead of pizza because you wanted to look good, even if it was just for a day. They were there.

9. Not Being Able To Sing Your Heart Out Together

Your favorite song to sing together comes on the radio while you're driving or jamming in your room. Looking around and not seeing them there kills you, so naturally you skip the song because it feels wrong to enjoy it without them.

10. They Knew You Better Than You Know Yourself

They could tell by just one look if you were OK or not. If you said you were, they knew if you were lying. It was kind of a blessing in disguise because even if you didn't want to be bothered, they'd send you cute puppy videos to cheer you up.

11. You Don't Realize How Much You'll Miss Them Until They're Not Around

It's summer vacation and you're sitting in your room. Whether you're reading, cleaning, jamming to music, a piece of you is missing. Being all alone in your room you realize, "wow, I miss my roommate."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
