9 Reasons Dating Yourself Is Better Than Anything You'll Find On Tinder

Being a single, independent woman in 2019 isn't so bad, so why not pour a glass of red wine, do your makeup and go out to dinner? YOU deserve it. Treat yourself to a lovely date for one and don't feel slightly bad about not having company. Sometimes, it's better to do whatever you want to do.

1. Learning to love yourself takes time

Self-acceptance and love is a JOURNEY. But, taking the time out of my day for some ME time, like going to see a movie or grabbing some froyo, is essential for my self-love journey. Learning to enjoy my own company and being comfortable going places alone was a HUGE step for me, but it opened a lot of doors. If I can't find anyone to go to a house show with me, I might just go alone. Why not?

2. You can explore any possible new interests

Have you always thought about learning how to knit but never made time for it? Exploring new interests is one of the fun things about dating yourself. If you've always wanted to take a pottery class but never have, dating yourself is the perfect reason to GO FOR IT.

3. Going out alone is cheaper than going out as a couple

When you're in a serious relationship, it's typical to trade off on who pays for what date. Dating yourself means only paying for yourself and nobody else. Talk about some savings.

4. You can make new friends with the people sitting near you

This doesn't work in all situations, of course, but if you're at a bar or a coffee shop, chances are you might end up talking to the cutie sitting next to you. New friends are always a good thing!

5. You might discover things you never knew about yourself

When I started spending more time with myself, I started noticing some problematic thought patterns and personality traits I didn't like. I'm quite impatient, which is something I've been consciously trying to improve. However, I wouldn't have noticed these things as easily if I hadn't been spending a lot of time alone.

6. You might find your favorite spot in town

If you love going to coffee shops and decide to keep treating yourself to coffee at new shops, you are guaranteed to find one shop that you love and want to go back to again. It might even become your new favorite spot in town.

7. Self love is always a journey and never a destination

I fully recognize how cheesy this sounds, but it's true. I don't think anyone ever fully arrives at 'complete self-love' like nobody fully arrives at 'completely and fully happy.' It's a constant process of working towards daily happiness and self-love. Life is truly a marathon and not a sprint. Remember to love yourself, babes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
