Can anyone argue with an old-fashioned love?

What Dating Was Like In Each Decade, Since Dating In 2019 Will Make You Want To Go Back In Time

In This Article:

If you're looking for a history lesson, this article isn't for you. It's simply my opinions concerning a handful of decades based on loose historical knowledge and mostly movies I've seen. Because, let's be real... something I think we can all agree on: dating in the 21st century is not easy. The more I listen to my friends' boy problems, the more I wish I could time travel.

So this is basically just me daydreaming about what it would be like to date in a different time period.

The 1920s

Ah, the roaring 20s! Just out here looking for my Jay Gatsby! I feel like this would be good and an aesthetically pleasing decade to date during. Who doesn't want to run into their crush at the local speakeasy?! Also, since I was a dancer I think I'd do well and I have it on good authority that I look great in a flapper costume!

The 1930s

Well, this one would be a little rough considering The Great Depression. But who needs money when you have true love? Sitting with my boy and listening to the newly invented radio would be pretty cool. Still, this wouldn't be the number one decade I'd pick.

The 1940s

Obvious con of this decade would be living during World War II. However, have you seen that iconic picture of the couple kissing when the dude returns from war?! That could have been me, guys! (Though they were reportedly complete strangers).

The 1950s

If I dated during this decade I'd always have a milkshake in hand courtesy of whoever I was dating. I think this would be my decade I'd pick as my number one choice. I'd spend my nights at the drive-in(hopefully not stranded). Wholesome activities and poodle skirts would abound. I picture my life being exactly like "Grease" except I want a chance to do the "Grease Lightning" dance on the hood of the T bird.

The 1960s

I'm a huge "Mad Men" fan and although there is a lot of questionable behavior done by Mr. Don Draper I would time travel just to have the opportunity to be in the same room with him(although he is a fictional character just let me have this one, thanks). Also 60s fashion provided so many options. You better believe I'd be wearing go-go boots as much as possible.

The 1970s

Aside from the Vietnam War bringing down the mood, I think I would thrive in the disco-era. Like how could you not have fun in those outfits dancing to some sick tunes? Finding love under a disco ball, yes please.

The 1980s

Based on any 80s movie I've ever seen I feel like dating during this time would be awesome. Or totally awesome, I should say. What I'd like about this would be the bright colors I'd get to wear on all my dates. Oh, and how big my hair would be. I would also like all the background music. I would probably spend a lot of time at the mall and/or go on a date looking for the Goonies. *Dances to "Thriller" at home to celebrate a date going well.

The 1990s

Just watch "Friends". Aside from the awful fashion trends (which a lot have come back), this seems to be fun. The internet is established just enough to help, but boys would still call me on the phone. Win/win situation I think.

The 2000s

Honestly, I'd date during this decade just to have a breakup and blast Avril Lavigne and cry. Also managing an AIM account seems fun. Body glitter and lip smackers were socially acceptable and because of that, I would rule the dating scene. I'd love stalking my crushes on MySpace.

2010 to Present Day

Being left on open on Snapchat would be so.much.fun. Just kidding, obviously not. It's a toss up between today and the 1930s of what I'd pick as my least favorite.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
