It's all about the Benjamins, baby! Well, it's more so about the Jacksons when it comes to me and my boyfriend's pockets. Although it sounds a tad bit unimpressive, when you're in love or lust, $20 can take you a long way. So, if you and your guy or gal are looking for some fun but are on a budget, because real life still exists (i.e., rent, utilities, gas, and so on), have no fear. Luckily, for you love birds, below is a list of awesomely fun date ideas that are easy on the pockets.
1) A Bit of Drama
Catch a show at Playhouse on the Square! Yes, some theatre tickets can be pricey, but at POTS (Playhouse on the Square), they offer one pay-what -you-can night, per show. This show typically occurs on a Thursday. I'm sure you and your companion will enjoy a comedy, drama, or musical (my fave) for a mere $10 donation per person. Now, don't be a procrastinator, because these tickets sell out pretty quickly. It only took me one missed show to learn that lesson the hard way.
2) Sno Cones and Convo
Being a staple establishment in Memphis, Jerry's Sno Cones is somewhere every couple in Memphis should experience. Don't let the line scare you away. Once you see the menu prices and actually experience your first Jerry's Sno Cone, you will completely understand why people don't mind waiting in line. Whether it's two juicy cheeseburgers and two snow cones or a dozen spicy tamales and two supreme snow cones, you and your date will have some good eats and great memories. All for under 20 bucks.
3) IMAX at the Pink Palace Museum
At only $9 per ticket, on Tuesday afternoons, you and your significant other can enjoy a larger-than-life movie in 3D. You guys will also be able to enjoy the quirky and historical exhibits while you wait for your IMAX film to begin.
4) Going to the Drive-In
It is virtually impossible to get into the movies and enjoy snacks for under $20, unless you are some sort of magician. But if you go to the Malco Drive-In on Summer, tickets are only $7.50 a head, and of course the snacks are free if you're anything like me and just bring your own.
5) A Trip To the Farmers' Market
What's better than you and your sweetie taking a stroll through the local farmers' market? First, you can enjoy live music, exercise demos, cooking, and live music at absolutely no cost. After soaking up the atmosphere, you and your sweetie should peruse the produce and other natural goods. Then, use that $20 that you guys have been holding on to, and pick up some fresh fruits, veggies, meats, or whatever your hearts desire. Finally, once you return home, get in the kitchen and whip up a delicious dinner or healthy dessert.
