Dear kiddos,
I never quite understood Taylor Swift's song "Never Grow Up" until I met you. Every lyric of that song reminds me of you and how lucky I am to be apart of your life. You might not realize it now, but you have challenged me and changed my life in so many ways and for that, I am truly thankful.
"And don't lose the way that you dance around in your PJs getting ready for school"
I love our breakfast dates to Dunkin Donuts, our lunch dates to Chick-fil-A and our frozen yogurt dates whenever our sweet tooth cravings need to be satisfied. All those tireless mornings when we worked on studying for the upcoming spelling test or practicing writing your letters made it all worth it when the teacher said you were doing so well. Watching you walk out of school and you both running over to give me a big hug is the best part of my day because the smiles on your faces are priceless.
"Remember the footsteps, Remember the words said"
I love when we're on a drive somewhere and I hear your little voices in the backseat sing along to "Cheerleader," and when you get so excited when I tell you we're going on a surprise trip to the Nature Center. Remember that one time you told me that I had to come home from college because you had new toys to show me? I knew you were telling me that you miss me while I'm at school, and I miss you just the same.
"I won't let nobody hurt you, won't let no one break your heart"
Don't even get me started on your advice about men. All your questions about if I'm married and if I have kids of my own lead into telling me that I need to "win back" the guy I last dated. You teach me to have a positive outlook on my relationships even if you have no idea what goes on outside elementary school. I tell you that you better not be a heartbreaker, and you give me a big smile back.
"Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little"
Every time I find a toy of yours in my car or in my purse I smile because it reminds me of you and all the fun we have when I get to come over and watch you. All the times you've fallen asleep on my lap while we watch "Paw Patrol" and held my hand as we cross the street shows me that you truly care about me. I will never forget when you knew you wouldn't see me for a long time because I was going back to school and you ran up to me to give me a big hug and said three words that mean so much to me, "I love you." Three simple words that almost made me cry on my drive home and remind me just how lucky I am to be apart of you life.
I have had the pleasure of seeing you grow over the past couple years, even if one day you'll be taller than me. Can't wait to see you next, so we can eat all the chocolate chip cookie dough before the cookies even go in the oven.
Love,
Miss Lauren
