Dare To Dream In Color

After taking a few showers and finally getting all the color off our skin and out of our hair, we take a look back at an amazing thing that happened this weekend. This past Saturday at the University of Maryland, Terp Thon hosted their Color Run For The Kids and it was a huge success!

Terp Thon is the largest student-run philanthropy group in the state of Maryland and benefits Children’s National Health System in Washington, D.C. The organization works all year to fundraise leading up to a 12-hour dance marathon in March.

During the 2.1-mile run throughout the UMD campus, more than 900 participants were covered head to toe in color. Afterward, all the runners took part in a huge color toss on McKeldin Mall. Many Miracle Kids and their families were able to attend and complete the run, as well as sign autographs for all of their biggest fans.

Terp Thon also celebrated a big milestone for one of the Miracle Kids, Olivia. September 25th was the 10th anniversary of Olivia's heart transplant which she received back in 2005, after doctors discovered she had an enlarged heart. The organization collected 3,652 cards, one for every day since her transplant, and gave them to her at the Color Run.

As part of the Terp Thon planning team, I was lucky enough to be a part of this incredible event. I had the responsibility of being at the blue station during the run and throwing color at the runners, and although the wind didn't always cooperate it was a lot of fun. It was great to see so many college students waking up early on a Saturday for something other than game day, and taking the the time to make an impact while having a good time. It gave students something different to do and an opportunity for some great pictures.

"This was my first Color Run and I really loved that you weren't just doing something fun for a good cause, but you were also getting to see the effect you had as you listened to the families talk and saw them participate," sophomore Jori Shearer said.

If you participated in the Color Run and had a blast, or if you missed out of the fun, sign up for Terp Thon today! It will be on March 5, 2016, starting at 12 p.m. Click here to register: http://www.helpmakemiracles.org/index.cfm?fuseacti...

Check out the recap of last year's amazing experience and get excited to make a difference FTK!!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
