I asked my dad one day to find me a man who will love me forever – and he told me he already has.

A bond between a father and a daughter is unlike any other. You are his pride and joy and he would do anything to make you smile. You will always be his little girl no matter how old you get and he will never stop treating you like his most prized possession.

1. He is the first man you will ever love.

And you know it will last a lifetime.

2. He taught you how a man should treat you.

And will hurt anyone who does not abide.

3. He treats you like you are an actual princess.

And you start to think you really are (sometimes you need to tone it down for those who don’t understand that you are royalty).

4. He tried to do your hair when mom was not there to do it.

And failed miserably.

5. He taught you how to play sports.

And probably coached every game (thank him again for this).

6. He protects you like no one else can.

And he would die trying.

7. He taught you how to drive.

Even though he thought he was going to die, he made sure you would pass your test (really because he was sick of being your chauffeur).

8. He is the most dependable person.

You know he will be there whenever you need him – even if it is just to kill a spider.

9. He showed you how to be strong.

Even at your weakest time.

10. He knows how to make you laugh.

Even when you want to cry – dad humor is the best humor.

11. He will always be your hero.

Not all heroes wear capes (thank goodness for that).

12. He is always on your side.

Even when he knows you are wrong (but no one needs to know that).

13. And he will always be your best friend.

And you know you will always be his.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
