Dear Dad,
You're honestly my hero. I know, it's kind of corny, but on those stereotypical college application essays where we have to tell the admissions officers who our role model is — I chose you.
I chose you because you constantly show me what it means to approach people with grace, love and humility — I chose you because you are who I aspire to be. I want to have those skills in every situation I face in my day to day life.
I want to be successful and succeed in grad school the way you did to set myself up for a successful future in my field. I'm pushing myself to apply to the top programs in the country so that I can follow in your footsteps.
Thank you for supporting my career — even though it has nothing to do with your career path. Some parents push their kids into certain careers or push them to go to certain colleges. Thank you for allowing me to be my own person and to follow my dreams.
You've also inspired my heart for Jesus. For years, I didn't feel at home in the church, you have helped me gain faith in God and trust in him and him alone knowing that he has a plan for me so much better and bigger than I could possibly imagine.
You also taught me how to truly be myself without shame or fear of being judged by other people. Sure, I may be the girl who prefers to stay in on a Friday night and edit articles or write my latest piece, but there's nothing wrong with that.
I know the one-on-one time we get is not frequent since I'm away at school, but the one on one time we do get is so special to me. Not everyone can say that they get to hang out with their inspiration.
You never miss any of the big events in my life, and for that, I am so grateful.
I understand that not everyone has a dad who is present or around in their life, and to not only have a present dad — but a great one as well — is the best thing in the world.
Thanks for being my biggest supporter.
Love,
Your Daughter
