An Open Letter to My Boyfriend
Nicole Basile

Dear Boyfriend,

First off , thank you. Thank you for putting up with someone crazy, needy, and difficult as me, I know it a lot harder than you let on, but you love me even though I am all of these things. Thank you for taking care of me when I'm sick, for always taking my side (even if I'm wrong), and for giving me that extra push when I'm too afraid or don't want to do something. You are the person who is always there for me whether its 3 in the afternoon or 3 in the morning. I know I take what you do for granted and do not always say thank you, but please know I am always grateful for everything that you do. Thank you for the good and the bad, the happy and sad, and everything in between.

Secondly, I want/need to say how much I truly do love you. There are so many who say we are too young, and that we are going to hold each other back, or that relationships in college never last long, but I'd like to think we've proved them wrong so far. Yes, there are times where we mess up and fight, but the majority of the time we are truly happy together against all obstacles coming towards us. As for holding each other back; I think we encourage each other to do our best and if one of us isn't then the other gives us a little kick and puts us right back where we belong. You're there when no one else is and always seem to have my back. I love you for your kindness, your confidence, humor, and how I can be myself around you. I never have to put up walls or curtains and not be myself around you because it is easy to be myself around you more than anyone. You were and are my best friend and that's the best part about this relationship. Sure we don't love the same things or have everything in common, but that makes the things that we love together extra special.

Whether I tell you or not (usually not because you get too cocky), you are extremely funny, usually right about most things, and perfect the way you are. I may not laugh at every joke you make, but if I did you'd never stop and they would be way too annoying to deal with. You're usually right about anything and everything, it actually becomes extremely frustrating, but you at least make it better by telling me I was right to begin with (even though I was actually wrong). You are truly an amazing person and I am so proud to call you mine every day and so proud of who you are, your accomplishments, and how you have grown since we first met. I love you more than anything and anyone.

Love always,

Your Girlfriend

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
