In approximately 16 days and some small amount of hours, I shall be joining those who have come before me in the realm of being of age. As it approaches, I face an onslaught of questions in regards to which bars I will go to and in which order. It seems like a loaded question, as each place has its appeals and drawbacks, their beautiful glass chalices and these other tantalizing half-deals that fall on the exact day that I will be venturing up and down High Street. Part of me, a very large part, is busily planning my route, but a small part of me wonders what more is out there. And as I am a naturally unsatisfied and curious insomniac, I decided to discover.
1. The Bourbon Trail
Having lived in Kentucky in my younger years, I feel as though I should pay tribute to the great state [no offense Ohio] by honoring its signature, uh, beverage? Having never had bourbon in my prior experience, I feel as though I should be terrified. Appeasing my fears are both my mother and a comprehensive guide on the internet, complete with a trail passport.
2. Paint and Canvas
Wine. Paint. Not painting with wine, not wine containing paint. But a lovely combination of the two, and you have me sold. Although I may not necessarily search out one of these events for my birthday day… who says it can’t be a birthday week?… or month…
3. New York
One of my closest friends is interning in the greatest city on earth [sorry Chicago]. The greatest city on earth never sleeps. It also is rather expansive and has great cheesecake. Can I just get a bus ride for a present? Please?
4. Brewery Tours Via Canoe
Barley and Hops Microbrewery in Maryland teamed up with River & Trail Outfitters to offer a canoe trip combined with a beer sampling trip. Now I may not be the most coordinated, nor am I the most skilled at navigating a boat for 5.8 miles… but it is a sacrifice that I am willing to make.
5. There’s Always Vegas
Enough said.
