CoverGirl's Lash Equality Controversy

CoverGirl's Lash Equality Controversy
Teen Vogue

In 2016, CoverGirl introduced their very first male model spokesman for the company, James Charles, as their first CoverBoy. Charles has a YouTube channel where he posts makeup tutorials on himself and other YouTubers. Everyone thought that Charles was transgender, but he just enjoys playing with makeup.

I have grown up using CoverGirl products. It has always been called CoverGirl. Not CoverBoy or ColorSwirl. Just CoverGirl.

In my opinion, it is not okay for guys to wear makeup on a daily basis. It is not normal, at least not in my world. If a male is acting or doing an interview and they touch up his face, it would be totally reasonable. It is completely different for a male to take time to do a full face of makeup.

What is lash equality anyways? Are eye lashes and mascara really something people really need to make equal? They are just eye lashes, nothing special. Everyone has them, whether you like them or not.

As a Christian I am against being gay. But everyone needs to know that I will still love you and treat you like everyone else. We are called to love everyone. The thing is, someone's gayness doesn’t have to be televised. It does not have to be broadcasted to the whole world. It 100 percent does not need to define who you are. Your heart makes who you are.

Since CoverGirl released its new commercial, parents have been in an uproar about it. Many parents are now too scared to let their children watch television because of the commercial. Parents have a fear that their young male child might ask questions or think it is okay to wear makeup and act feminine.

Little kids ask lots of questions. Imagine a little kid asking why a boy was wearing makeup. What would your response be? To be able to explain a to a child about why a boy is wearing makeup in a way that they would understand would be very difficult.

Bottom line is, people are either born male or female. There is no choosing who you are. You don’t get to choose later on in life about what gender you want to be. Men should act like men and women should act like women.

If you are a male, I hope your father teaches you how to be a man. How to work hard, earn money, care for others, how to treat women and support their family.

If you are female, I hope that your mother teaches you how to work hard for what you want as a woman, how to cook and take care of a household, and how to stand up for yourself in a male dominant world.

Throughout the next months and years, controversial subjects will always pop up. Parents have to teach their kids the right way to act because the world will only become more corrupted.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
