It is super easy to tell that we must be related. It's not because of the looks because we definitely don't look anything alike, trust me on this! It's more because we have spent our entire lives by each other's sides. Ever since he was born, we have been by each other's side, probably way too much but that's okay. He's not just my little baby cousin who is somehow finally taller than me but he's my best friend. He's the one I can always count on no matter what and I know if I needed him, he would drop everything in a bit of second to come help me.
Here's a few reasons why my little baby cousin isn't just my baby cousins but my best friend.
Family Gatherings.
If your family is anything like mine, you have numerous family gatherings to go to throughout the year because apparently meeting less than twice a year isn't acceptable. Knowing that my little cousin is going to be at these family gatherings with me is the BEST feeling ever mostly because they are the highlight of the family gathering! Sitting there waiting patiently for your cousin to get there feels like forever because you're surrounded by old people continuously asking about your personal life and time just seems to go by slower when your cousin isn't there to help pick on your weird aunts and uncles.
Bonding Time.
The limit of bonding doesn't exist around here. Ever since my cousin was born, we have ben basically attached to the hip all the time. I would spend almost every weekend at his house, go over during holiday vacations, and over the summer I would spend weeks and weeks at a time doing reckless things with him. As we got older, the more time we spent together increased. Every free chance that we had, we made sure we were together. Now, that I go to college full-time and I am a collegiate athlete and he works literally all the time, we still spend as much time together as possible. This past summer was the one summer where I spent what felt like every single day with him, and to be honest with you there was this one point where I stayed a good two weeks straight with him.
Our idea of fun and bonding times have changed over the years, and the level of fun has increased over the years. As children, we would spend the majority of our time together playing with Barbies and G.I. Joes, playing with action figures, playing with trucks and cars, playing with sticks (yes out of all the toys we could possibly have owned, we decided to use our imaginations, and use them as swords, guns, and other weird weapons you can think of), playing with Pokemon Cards and weird PlayStation 1 games. But as we got older we figured that playing with Barbies and sticks wasn't as fun anymore so we moved on to better things such as real guns, four-wheelers, snowmobiles, more video games but they happened to be a little bit more violent. One time I spent a week over at my cousin's house and we would pull all nighters just sitting in the bar room or basement playing Nascar games on the PlayStation and eating cheese balls. Our record time for staying up playing Nascar and eating cheese balls is a good 24 hours, try and beat that.
Memorable Moments in Our Life.
The happy, sad, funny, and embarrassing memories still continue to grow for us. I remember when we were little and my cousin lived in their old house and we would use these old flip-phones and play hide-n-seek with them by hiding and whenever we needed a hint to find them we would ask for them to play a ringtone. My cousin lived in a three story house and we would play in the pitch dark and I can remember playing hide-n-seek down in the basement at one time and we just sat there and laughed at his older brother because he tripped and fell into the metal pole in the middle of the basement. Another funny memory that I remember taking the little four-wheeler that he had out back of their house and driving it on the trails and we were going way too fast and BAM, we ended up hitting a tree. All I could remember was you crying about how we almost broke the four-wheeler and how we shouldn't have been going so fast. Two years ago, we went shopping to buy his girlfriend at the time Christmas presents and we were in Yankee Candle and we were walking around the store smelling each candle so we could find the perfect one to get her. While we were walking around the store, we must have been relatively close to each other or something because the next thing I know is having one of the employees asking my cousin if he needed helping to look for a candle for his girlfriend, and the employee was referring to me as his girlfriend. I've never been so embarrassed in my entire life into that day. The memories that we have made this summer have been my absolute favorite so far. My cousin recently graduated from high-school and for some reason this summer, we a lot of time together. This summer was full of endless amounts of swimming, eating so much chicken nuggets and Doritos, mudding, just pointless driving around just because we had nothing better to do, and just spending quality time with each other.
No Judge Zone.
We are all humans, and that means that we all make mistakes throughout our lifetime. Having a little cousin that is so close to you means that you can tell them anything and everything and they won't judge you. Well, at first they might judge but then after a few minutes you;ll just sit there and laugh about it and maybe if you're lucky, your cousin might have done something just as bad as you and it won't make you feel so bad. Being able to tell my little cousin everything is great because I know all my secrets are safe with him and I know that he will take them to the grave.
Inside Jokes.
What group of best friend doesn't have inside jokes? Since we've been best friends for so long, my cousin and I have numerous inside jokes and to be honest with you, there is some of them that I don't even really remember anymore. If there is any of the inside jokes that I can remember it would have to start with the Dorito Boy and Sprinkles from this summer. Or that one time we were playing truth or dare with Austin. How about that time when Rachel came over to your house after her break-up with her girlfriend and your friend kept hitting on her and then sent her a picture of a different guy saying that it was him the entire night! LMAO!
It's safe to say that my little cousin and I are extremely close to each other. I treat him like he's more than just a little cousin but more like another little brother of mine. He's been there for me more than most people and I couldn't be more grateful to have ana amazing cousin like him in my life. I also want to say thanks for being born, like you actually had a choice, but seriously I couldn't imagine life without you. Like who would be my hunting buddy, my let's go swimming at 2:30 in the morning buddy, my Taco-Bell partner, the one guy who doesn't mind going to the movies with me (that reminds me, remember when we went and saw G.I. Retaliation and my ankle was the size of a softball and you wanted to sit all the way in the back of the movie theater and I could barely walk up the stairs? lmao), and lastly who would be my best friend? Over the years, we magically became extremely close and I'm happy we've grown so close together because if it wasn't for you I wouldn't be in the greatest relationship with your friend, and I wouldn't have had the most memorable summers of my teenage years (even though I'm twenty, it felt good to relax and actually act like a teenager for once). I could continue to write more and more about you and our relationship but honestly I'm not emotionally willing to do so, you know how emotional I am so, I'll leave it at this. Thanks for being my best friend dude.
